[#11921460]

I am building up a new Scandal frame and I have a slx 7120 boost direct drive crank and need a chainring. Will I get away with a 34t oval ?

I think On One officially say a 32t round chainring. The chainstays an odd shape though so it might be very dependant on the exact chainline.

As a work around op, you could go for a 10t or even 9t cassette at the back.

Almost definitely not the cheapest option but...

I've got a 32 oval on mine. Once I've done school run I'll have a look at clearance for you.

Ice a 32 oval on mine. I don't have a 34 to check. I'll try and take a picture and upload later on.

32 oval on mine. I daresay a 34 would go but it’ll be super tight.

I ran 34T round on mine non boost too, so boost a 34 oval or 36 round will fit. I recall there wasn't much in the way of space though.

Cool 34t oval it will be (as long as I can find one in stock for the new direct mount shimano crank) at a reasonable price.

@100psi

Remember that a 34 oval will be as wide as a 36 at its widest point. Give or take, anyway.

I suspect that might be bloody close to the frame but in reality you just won't know till you try it. Fingers crossed though bux.

I have a mate who has a 34t ab oval on a non boost crank. I will offer this up into my bb and try to replicate chain line. It should let me know if it will fit. I will report back.🤞

Today I found a local shop with stock of ab narrow wide oval rings.and after offering a 32t up and a 34t I can confirm that a 34t fits on my large Scandal with a slx 7120 crank. It is rather tight to the chainstay but by my reckoning it should be fine - I am not expecting much frame flex around the bb.
How close was yours Bigjim
