just for fun ๐Ÿ˜‰
i don't currently have a bmx (not since 2005 and before that when i was 10-11 back in the mid 80's). as i may have said on here already though,i am going to be getting another bmx (hopefully before november when it will finally be paid off).
also have you done any cross country type riding on one (just to see what it was like?)
i will be cycling it back from the shop around 11-12 miles so not a huge distance.

When I was 12 we rode from our village to the BMX track at Northallerton. About 16 miles round trip - that was an epic ride back then.

Think someone on here rode a trail centre on one for jokes.

I've probably ridden about 10 miles in a day on a bmx. If you're talking a cruiser and you can stick the saddle up it's perfectly do able to ride properly.

However if I am riding any distance I will look for trucks/buses etc. to skitch off of.

I'll happily ride 10miles on mine with the seat slammed. no idea what the furthest I've ridden is tho.
I almost always use my BMX when riding off road with younger kids as it makes me choose smoother routes/lines more suitable for their little wheels. (dunno if that constitutes cross country type riding to you?)

Did 25 miles once, as a teen. Half of that one handed after slipping & shredding my hand on an old cable while jumping into the quarry we were tombstoning in to.
I also rode 5 miles home without the handlebars attached once after my stem snapped coming off a jump.

What BMX are you buying then...?

Probably about 25 miles. Regularly ride 10 mile loops as I reckon it's cracking training - I suppose it's a lot easier when you're only 5'2" though ๐Ÿ˜† . Often go to Cwmcarn and back - about 20ish miles.

i will come clean and admit that i have absolutely no bike skills whatsoever ๐Ÿ˜ณ (i'm 37 also).i blame the bmx thread that was up here a short while ago (what first bmx to get?),as that lit the fuse ๐Ÿ˜†
i also cannot afford it,but as soon as i saw the bike on wethepeople web site,i was smitten with it ๐Ÿ˜ณ
i will never be a good bmx'er (crap most likely ๐Ÿ˜† but i do plan on learning some basic skills that i should have learned as a kid.

i do plan on going offroad on it too (riding trails ๐Ÿ™‚

edit nice one mamadirt ๐Ÿ˜€ i'll be chuffed if i can do 10 miles semi regular on it.

mate, you need to stop going on about your age, you're much younger than other contributors on this thread.

I did 3.5 miles into a headwind on Monday, it hurt - I was racing to get to the Olympic torch relay after work and had only left as much time as I'd need on the Brompton (which cruises happily at about 16mph). However I'd only had the bike a few days and it is getting easier, am now coping with constant standing pedalling on my commute (which is about 70% offroad). My nearest BMX track is 20 miles away so I think that's a leap too far... Doesn't half make the MTB feel really fast and smooth and stable when I get back on it.

Haha, get a long seatpost for it and it'll be perfect for a 12 mile trip to the shops.

A few years ago, some lads I used to ride with managed lancaster back home to barrow. I think thats about 45 miles (on the back roads). Couldnt believe it.

I did 8 last weekend!

When I was about 15 we rode round Whinlatter, fire roads and cheeky trails on BMXs. To improve the braking on my mags I cut into the rims slightly with a Stanley blade, ate the rear pads in an afternoon. Things you do as kids!

Raceface - I too might get one after that Bmx thread. I have zero skills. But just found a small skate park in a village nearby so will probably go early at weekends to save embarrassment !

I've done Swinley several times, as GW said it's good when riding with young kids as it forces you to avoid the tricky bits and generally slows you down. Think the furthest I've ever done on the road was about 25 miles, but that was in mid summer so I think I actually passed out when I got back home, especially as I'd just gotten off a 3 hour train journey with no water before doing it.

My brother did a 123km audax ride on BMX for a bet once

edited for you, but still frickin impressive!

Did about 14 miles with a 30+ kg backpack with all my worldly possessions including a towbar mounted bikerack strapped on in the hot sun in Australia a while back.

This was along busy roads into Cairns and the bike was brakeless...

Did 10 miles to a BMX track once, rode that for about an hour, and then something like 14 miles back home via mates houses.

I always remember it, because by the time I left mates, it was late (12ish) and for whatever reason I got a bit spooked pedalling around in the middle of nowhere in the dark, and so decided to nail it the last 4 miles home. I couldn't sleep until about 3am because my body was buzzing so much.
