He already advertises Fred Perry.

Does it make it better or worse that most of the French seem to be incredibly bitter and pissed off about it? Reading the comments on l'equipe and 95% are calling him a drugs cheat or an unworthy winner of a boring tour.

Amazing performance though - and he lives 'down the road' in Chorley. 🙂

Absolutely amazing, was out of my chair screaming for Cav to win today. British cycling have done an amazing job one of the best tours I've ever watched.

Well done mutton chops Brad.

and I'm also going to put a well done in for Millar for the stage win, an ex doper pulled it out of the bag too.

Great result, Cav's a legend... Wiggins needs to win it again to get there, though 🙂

I honestly believe he'd have won it last year had he not crashed out.

Good to see Sky learn from that and reap the benefits, brilliant.

Quite possibly, look how Cuddles did this year 🙂

Still, to be a legend you need to either a) do it against the odds or b) do it repeatedly. First Brit to win is cool, but to my mind has yet to qualify for legendary status.

Reading articles on the beeb and that, they were saying the French seemed to quite like him. They even started calling him Le Gentleman.

Don't forget, if it goes to plan we could have the World Champ, the TdF winner, the Olympic Road Race champ and the Olympic TT champ all british in ten days time.

For a nation with 'no' cycling heritage that wouldn't be bad.

And that's before the track boys and girls go to work.

I wonder if Dave Brailsford fancies a serious go at MTB next?

I know you probably mean XC, but would be fascinating to see Brailsford working with Danny, Gee and Marc to take on Gwin.

Wiggins
6 World Champs track gold medals
3 Olympic track gold medals
First Briton to win the Tour
First cyclist to have won an Olympic track gold and the Tour
First cyclist to win the Dauphiné, Paris–Nice and the Tour de Romandie in the same year (I think?)

Cavendish
Gold in the madison at the 2005 and 2008 World Championships
Gold in the scratch race at the 2006 Commonwealth Games
Eleven wins in his first professional season, equalling the record held by Alessandro Petacchi
23 Tour de France stages, 4th on the all-time list
36 Grand Tour stage wins, 9th on the all-time list
First Rainbow jersey to win a Tour stage (I think?)
Points classification in the 2010 Vuelta and the 2011 Tour

that's pretty legendary, and I've probably missed a few.....

are you suggesting that reading the comments of loud mouthed opinionated people on an internet [foruum] may not actually be reflective of the country at large......MADNESS

Does Wiggo's [s]beak[/s] nose give him an unfair aerodynamic advantage?

Wiggo is the first person to win Romandie, P-N and Dauphine in one year though. You've missed plenty off his palmares..... he won the Prologue of the Giro in 2010, finished 3rd at the Vuelta last year etc

First to win in Paris I think.

What a bloody great day. 🙂

Never thought I'd see it, never in a million years. Massive lump in my throat watching the MJ lead out his sprinter.

All for one and one for all eh my Gallic chums? 😉

Quite right that Garrett is getting a load of abuse....but did anyone see that yank (American ambassador to France?) presenting on the podium!? What a scruffy f*ck!

I still haven't worked that one out. I'd have thought the ambassador would have put some effort to put some clothes on, and a quick google earlier showed that the current ambassador is definitely someone else, so no idea who that dude was.

I could have got it wrong, pretty sure he was American, it would explain the sartorial faux pas.

Best result on French soil since 1415, how apt that the BBC should have shown the highlights from that last night. I don't think that Shakespeare has much of a clue though, not once did anyone put the hammer down or open a suitcase of courage, just a load of nonsense about breaches and some bloke called Crispen.

But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Wiggins the King, Cavendish and Froome,
Boasson Hagen and Rogers, Eisel and Porte,
Sivtsov and Knees-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son.

Wiggo was third in 2011 and Tony Martin won as I recall
