The question is in the title... I am currently running Kenda Nevegal 2.1" but was wondering what would be safe to use. IIRC Mavic say 2.3" is the upper limit, but given that tyre widths are so subjective I was wondering what people find acceptable? Would Kenda 2.35" be OK, or as they come up large will I die in a bloody mess?

Hurrah! If I die in a bloody mess it's your fault though.

i'm running a 2.5 on mine and i would say that was going a little too big as it starts to fold in the corners

I've found them a little too narrow for 2.3 tires upwards and they try and roll off the rim!

Running 2.35 Nevegals on XC717's here with no problems.
No lightweight either at 16st (and falling slowly). 😮

I run Kenda 2.35's on my 719's without a problem. Even the lightweight Kevlar ones feel rock solid with no hint of rolling off on anything.

It's worth bearing in mind that a Kenda 2.35 Blue Groove or Nevegal sizes up the same as a Maxxis Minnion 2.5.

It's sort of dependent on the tyre sidewall and how much pressure you ride with too.

Tyres with more flexible sidewalls or lower pressure will fold/roll more easily. eg. a 2.5 downhill tyre with 35psi might be ok, but a 2.3 trail tyre with 25psi might not....

I've used 2.35 Kenda Nevagals DTC on XM719 rims no problem

So a 2.35 High Roller would fit perhaps?

I used a 2.35 on a 717 and it rolled horribly.

I put 719 rims on and I'm running 2.4 contis happily now.
