Specialized Enduro Comp at £1,999? Anything cheaper...? I'm looking at a bunch of bikes but wonder what the consensus is

There may be more than one answer.

I fancy an Enduro Comp. Think I'll wait and see what happens to my particular carriage on the Public Sector Gravy Train (Copyright) first though.

those Enduros are nice. I rode an Expert last week and it really impressed in every way. I don't know how the Comp compares. I like that Specialized are now putting proper chainstays on their bikes. This trend for bent downtubes can't end soon enough though.

When you say all mountain what do you mean as having read a couple of reviews on the new enduro it seems more pointed towards making your way to the top eventually and then plummet back down.

If thats what you're after then go for it.

Does it have to be a full build? My Hemlock pretty much monsters the Enduro on spec and (IMO of course) on ride, and cost me around £1500. Just as a frinstance but if you shop carefully and buy used-but-good you should be able to do better than these.

A second hand one......

There is a guy on here selling a Nicolai FR and Cane Creek DB for around £1100....

Plenty change for a top build!

Researching the same thing, if you look around online and don't mind going back to 2009 models you can get:

Marin Attack Trail
Specialized Enduro Expert
Kona Coilair Deluxe

or 2010 models
Mondraker Dune R
Commencal Meta 5.5 Team

I'm very tempted toward the attack trail or the dune personally, thought I'd share my research. Hope it helps a bit!

Thanks - I'm looking into these. Definitely on the crawl to the top/plummet down bandwagon! The Mondraker and Commencal bikes look interesting particularly the Commencal. 2010 expert would be ideal though. 2009 seems to be a different design - unknown quantity. Also like the idea of a Pitch and then having cash left over for service/miscellaneous.

There is a chap on here with a brand new Enduro, pedals never fitted, insurance replacement type thang for £1400. New rice is £2000 he says, so it sounds like it's the Comp model. Check the classifieds.

Real Cycles have some very good offers on Meta 5 framekits if you are interested in the Commencal. You could build a Meta 5 with a Merlin groupset and some decent wheels for under £2k.

Or of course one of those cheap Wolf Ridge 6.9s and lots of change? No it's not a 6 inch bike, it just thinks it is, though it can take a longer fork.

I was looking at some of the Cube and Modraker offerings in The Bike Tree in Sheffield the other week, look nice and good value. Don't know the models though.

I could laways build you a Chumba XCL for around £2k also, with Fox Floats, Hope wheels, Thomson etc.

agreed - I rode one last week for a week and it's the most impressive bike I've ridden.

You've all pointed me toward some excellent deals, thanks!
