I found an old puncture repair kit the other day and thought about the afore mentioned tim. He must still be riding bikes in derbyshire somewhere.

david baker too, anyone know what he's up to?

David Baker was diagnosed with some weird heart issue and was told to stop biking immediately. I thought Tim was a postie, but not about either for a very long time.

Barry Clark & Caroline Alexander can be added to the where now list?

Maybe a good feature for a future mag?

Tim is alive and well and living somewhere near Matlock. He is a postie.

David Baker I think is now a gardner of some description having also run a cafe.

Barrie is an electrician in Barrow in Furness.

No idea on Wilma (Caroline) sorry.

Barrie Clarke is married to former MTB XC pro Sue Thomas, they live somewhere in the western lake District. Barrie was running a guiding/training/coaching business at one point, not sure if he still is. Sue was a regular on the enduro race scene for a while after Barrie retired from racing but again, not seen her in a while.

When the North Face Trail opened at Grizedale, Sue rode the "official" first lap (OK, the trail had been open a few weeks but it had an opening launch publicity thing). Christ she was quick, I was right on the limit keeping up with her.

Last time I did the Helvellyn Triathlon a couple of years back, Barrie Clark was walking up the valley past Glenridding Mines YHA as I came down on the run...not sure if he was there supporting someone. Said hello when I recognised him.

Barrie Clarke was at a cross race I did a couple of years ago in Rossendale. He seemed in good shape.
Fred Salmon was another hot shot from the past. Last seen appearing naked part way round the Three Peaks course to the amusement of Nick Craig!

There is a Tim Gould biography coming out some time soonish apparently. Spoke to Tim Gould at a BMBF race years ago, really lovely guy, happy to chat away to me despite me obviously being a star struck school boy!

Cool, one of my save in a fire items would be my MTB racing by Tim Gould and Simon Burney that Tim signed when I met him.

Apparently Tim won the postman's cyclocross championships a while ago after a number after he finished pro racing, apparently of the back of no training!

The only thing I saved from my Junior days. Massive signed, by Paul Hinton, poster. I got him to come to my school and give a talk, got to ride his team bikes! Really nice guy.
Saw Tim G win the nationals at Malvern. A fantastic hot dusty weekend of broken flexstems, tioga disc drives, pasta, lake jumping and bula everywhere. All my faves riding (jmc, hemming, lazenby as a junior the dude with the tash styling the bomb hole!) and iirc the dogsbollox was unveiled.

Definitely some mileage in a "where are they now? article in the mag, I reckon

I seem to recall the cycling coverage in the Matlock Mercury over the winter mentioned some "Goulds" in the junior events - presumably the next part of the dynasty coming through.....

OK, so names from yesteryear:
Tim Gould
David Baker
Caroline Alexander
Fred Salmon (now works in Bike Factory, a bike shop in Whaley Bridge, he's as mad a box of frogs)
Dave Hemming (last I heard he was working in America)
...
who else?

Chipps would probably know and I think Nick Craig is probably still in touch with Tim Gould.

i remember seeing David Baker and John Tomac at the Plymouth Grundigs, I asked for Tomac's autograph and he cycled off out of Newnham Park for a warm up.

Then met Julie Furtardo in the Virgin Megastore on the way home.

Saw Caroline Alexander training near Hawkshead once tried to catch up to say hi, but she was Tooo Fast... boyhood pin up... mmm

I worked as a summer boy in a bike shop in Morpeth with Jez Avery. I soon learnt never to loan him my bike. He could trash them very quickly.

What about Tim Davies, who used to ride for Alpinestars? I remember him giving me some words of encouragement during a race, as he passed me doing his warm-up (I think). That was in 1991, so he made an impression!

Jason Shackleton was a decent downhiller BITD

The lad who rode downhill for Fat Chance was never as good as he believed.

There was some handy Tim Flooks wurzel riding for GT. Wonder what became of him?

POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST

I sat in the kitchen at a house party with Jez, his girlfriend was at art school with me.

The lad who rode downhill for Fat Chance was never as good as he believed.

Do you mean Jake Eliot?

Tim Davies pops up on retrobike.co.uk from time to time.

I had my Alpinestars bike signed by Mike Kloser at one of the early 90's Malverns (go mullets! :p ), think he ended up doing Iditarod stuff didn't he?
Whilst we're being nostalgic did anyone else wipe out in the bombhole in the Malverns? At least I got a round of applause :p

Oh and what happened to the Mammoth Kamikazee DH race?

Mike Kloser is a multiple world champ adventure racer.

Barry still races the 3 Peaks CX and is damn fast. I had a happy moment when I found myself sat on his wheel.

Jez is still doing bike shows.

I think his first name was Elwyn, but can't remember his surname. I'm talking 1992. Don't recall seeing him in 1993, I'd remember the tantrums.

Not quite, she works for Team Sky although I'm not sure what her actual job title is.

Scott Dommett was in my LBS a few months ago, got chatting to the owner who said he recognised him from somewhere. SD said something about being in a video once. 😉 Can't remember what he's doing now though, I'll ask the LBS owner.

Sian Roberts post CyB?

Oh and the old CyB waiter guy who was ALWAYS grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst delivering food to tables at warp speed to reggae music was (a few years ago) monitoring wildlife in the CyB area, voles or bats iirc. That dude deserves a medal for chronically keeping the vibe alive.

Caroline Alexander overtook me at Eastridge, must've been about 1993. I was racing, she was just on her warm up lap, and despite having a massive crush on her, I didn't have the legs to catch her up.
