Hi, helping a teen rebuild his bike. He does a lot of mucking about in the woods, bit of jumping, typical teen fun stuff. Bike is full sus, and running boost 29er wheels, 2.35 tyres, with a destroyed front! His birthday = new wheels -

so what tough set of 29er boost wheels, or worth considering 27.5 (not sure he can stretch to new tyres as well). Tough rather than light. Reckon his budget is healthy as he mentioned Hunt!

Cheers

Hope Fortus 30 fits the bill. I’ve abused the hell out of the rear wheel on my hardtail including a few big cases and flat landers. Recommend. Obviously not light but pretty strong.

As above if its affordable then DT Swiss 511 on 350 hubs. Best place before Brexit for price was eBay but not sure how prices stack up now

Are the hubs worth saving?

No point in buying DT350 hubs if you don't rebuild the wheels to make the most of their supposed durability. At which point the argument follows that there's no point spending £200 on hubs now if the hubs he has are already sufficiently durable.

If he learns to build them now from the outset he's got a life of never having to spend more than ~£150-£200 on new rims and spokes to get the best wheels he can.

Thanks all. Hubs not worth keeping. Looks like availability will be key in choice!

The new Hunt enduro wheels look really promising if their testing is to be believed.

There's a piece on Pinkbike.

They could even be available, as they are just unveiled today.
