I'm probably over thinking this but having just got my MW82's through the post....

I've used alloy ones before and they work fine in mud, however is there something reasonably long, and a rubber type compound so they aren't so sketchy on wet stone?

You can get rubber football studs, if you buy a pack of 12 there should be 4 long ones. But, they are still studs so they're not grippy on rock really.

think the threads are often thinner on cycling shoe studs over football boot studs

I've got a few never used studs which came with some winter boots. You're welcome to them if you want them. email in profile....

Timc, not in my experience of lots of cycling shoes and lots of football studs. Whether a bike shop would suggest otherwise so you buy from them not in bulk from Sports Direct I could not say...

well the studs I'm sending to transapp are from some old Diadora winter cycling boots. Diadora also make football boots, do you reckon they'd make them different?

Years ago, when I used to play rugby, you could buy the metal studs individually, short or long. Metal ones were preferred as plastic ones wore down to a sharp edge. That's what I'd go for.
