I have just got an older anthem, great fast light bike with quick feeling geometry, love it. Its best in the dry though for me anyway.

But when the weathers rubbish, its horribly muddy, or when i fancy a bit more techy or droppy stuff, my trance (2007) is great too, slacker geometry, nice big wide bars, big tyres = confidence, but it weighs a ton, well 30ishlbs, and after a couple of hours i begin to feel its weight.

I dont have spare cash at the moment to spend on the trance, so is there an easy answer that i am missing?

Considering I find the trance so confidence inspiring, and i am not a technical riding god, will I lose that planted feel if i go for a slack but light hardtail and move all the kit over? (something like a rock lobster maybe)

Probably feel sluggish because you only ride it in sluggish/muddy conditions?

Put some lighter tyres on the Trance, and wheels.

+1 for the lighter wheels and tyres, cheaper than a new bike too (sometimes )
