Get out of there as fast as I could, and try to remember details about the car. Then ring Plod.

yup

My rule is quite clear these days - I do not hang around if the driver looks like getting out of the car. Swear at them, slag 'em, laugh at them and ride off laughing.

Report it to the police if you hve the number or if there is a CCTV camera there

Leave very quickly and invest in a helmet cam for some evidence in case it happens again.

Did you get the reg number?

report to the police then. Fair chance he will get stopped and searched and get an APNR marker on the car. CCTV would help as well

May as well report it, they might do something if the driver is known to them.

He pulls a knife.
You pull a gun.
He puts one of yours in the hospital.
You put one of his in the morgue.

That's the Chicago way.

The British way however is to make a note of the registration, make and model of vehicle and report it to the Police.

Pull mine out, plus throw my bike at him to distract him and get stuck in.

Wasn't in Leicester was it, a guy driving a VW Polo by any chance? A friend of ours got a knife pulled on him not 2 weeks ago by an old fella at the lights. Police were informed and said they were too busy to look into in that night and would get around to it in the next day or two!

Hmm, all the martial art training I've done (a fair bit, black belt in TKD and kickboxing plus brown in BJJ) have taught to do one of two things. If possible, run. If not, punch in throat, kick through knee, kick in balls, hurt - really really hurt the person. Id much rather do the first but I'd be ready to do the second.
Failing all though, get down on my knees and beg him not to hurt me.

You could've KO'd him. Or whack him with your bike, done properly his knife wouldn't be a problem for you.

My understanding is that if threatened in an open area you run towards a gun and away from a knife. YMMV.

Guy has been traced and charged with breach of the peace. From what the police said he'll spend the night in the cells and be in court tomorrow.

Knife crime is taken very seriously round that part of the country.

Breach of the peace is a fair bit lower down the scale than affray though isn't it?

They are considering more serious charges but need to determine reasons for carrying the knife and classification of the knife first.

Can't imagine he got arrested for breach of the peace for having a knife, he must have kicked off when they went round.

Having a knife would be possesion of an offensive weapon surely.

I do. I just get so close to their door that they can't open it. And if they try I can force it shut again.

Unless he can prove he saw a horse with a stone in its hoof nearby and he was going to its assistance, I would think he would need a very good lawyer!

Sitting behind my keyboard I can safely say that I would have disarmed him and then knocked him out with a single punch and then torched his car.

This is why we must say no to road rage. Turn the other cheek as someone once said.

Of course, they could always wind the window down and stab you.

I'm not impressed with you lot at all today. Why has no one pointed out that you need to nuke him from orbit; it's the only way to be sure.

Plod is the sensible answer but if it all goes wrong, someone pulling a knife does give you some benefits. You know what they're going to do, with which hand and when.

Plus, if someone really knows how to use a knife, you wont see it.

Wondering this also, I mean I'm perfectly willing to believe there are nutters about but to actually pull a knife on a cyclist seems to suggest he's a proper mentalist with serious anger issues...
Unless you were shagging his missus across the bonnet I can't see a bit of everyday "Traffic banter" leading to knives...

He didn't specify where on his body elf was going to hit him. Knees are very tender areas.

Beirut, it's quite nice these days... Where do you live, sounds like somewhere to avoid...

Honestly though, the world isn't all as bad as the Mail makes out, the OPs experience is the exception not the rule...

Step away from short weapons like knives.
Step into long weapons.

If you cant cycle away, you can put your bike between you and your attacker and use it to block attacks.

A QR seatpost with a pointy end makes a fine stealthy self defense sword type thingy. ๐Ÿ˜€
