Ok.

It is just that the drive side cup comes loose after 3-4 rides, and as new cups come with a application of threadlock I thought I may just need some to keep it tight (they are old and well used cups btw).

Loctite 641... also called 'bearing fit' (the 222 studlock as mention above can be used in the same way)

BUT don't put it on the threads, but a smear on the cup face that touches the BB shell on the frame - make sure both surfaces are clean and free from grease.

this is enough to retain, but doesn't hamper getting them back out again

simple rule we use:
If you want to undo it agin: 243
If you don't want to undo it again: 648

648 and 638 are the boys, use them to secure liners in engine blocks and conrod bolts (on bolt shanks not threads, or they would never undo!).

You might want to consider, getting the BB threads chased and the shell faced if you having issues as well as the threadlock.

You're gonna have trouble getting all those worms back in the can before you get the flame-proof suit on.....
