I am riding solo in the Kielder Chiller 24hr race next weekend, what bike spares should I be looking to take, just in case? Obvious ones being inner tubes, brake pads and power links? Anything else?

Trevor.

+1 for more brake pads. Whatever you think is a lot of pads, double it.

If possible spare mech hanger, spare mech, spare pedals and saddle as well. These SEM to be some of the most commonly broken bits in a crash so it means you can look back and fix stuff and then carry on.

If you have a pit crew - take a spare bike so they can do the fixing whilst you swap bikes.

+ more brake pads. The wet kielder grinding paste wins the uk grinding paste top trumps imo.

Just take everything. Last year was the most bike destroying, kit destroying and soul destroying conditions ever endured. Lets hope it's not the same this year.

No pit crew, just me on me todd! Spare pedals and saddle I can muster but not a spare mech or bike. More brake pads ordered! What about a spare chain?

Wouldn't hurt to have a spare chain. Also make sure nothing rubs on the bike. Eg bottle on frame, or cables on carbon etc. I saw a hole in a carbon frame tube in the old kielder 100 because of bottle rub!

Just heard mention of ‘proper winter ‘ on the local forecast for next week. Could be interesting!

Err, BBC weather site (nice update BTW!) suggests rain/sleet. So pretty much like last year. Joy.
