Looking at getting a commuter bike to replace a car, work uses the Evans Cycles scheme so it would need to be from Evans (I presume?)

have seen the Pinnacle Lithion ion 2018 model and it looks to fit the bill, but wondered if anyone had one, or something similar that they would recommend.

Commute is 16 miles per day, and pretty hilly. Don’t need to carry loads, but a rack would be needed/helpful I reckon.

That is one of the cheapest bikes I’ve seen with a decent drive system. Given that all the Pinnacle stuff I’ve seen have been decent value/quality, I’d be happy enough with that I reckon. Stick a rack on it & a tubeless conversion and you’re good to go!

Can't comment on the 'e' version but I bought a lithium about a year ago for family duties, towing trailers, taking on holiday etc and it has been brilliant. I've done a few longer road rides on it too and it's a great all-rounder.

Thats what caught my eye, seems like a lot of bike for the money when compared with others at a similar price.

Just wondering “what’s the catch” 😳

RE Just wondering “what’s the catch”

No catch : ) Assembled in a factory in Europe where we get good efficiency and a fair cost so the bike's pretty competitive. I doubt we'll hold it exactly where it is in future but current batch is good VFM.

Fun bike to ride ... the original test/development model is still with me getting good use, someone here doesn't want to let it go back. It's done 80+ mile Ridgeway bikepacking weekend trips with fair share of the load, just needed a charge on the morning of the way back - pretty good for someone who generally rides an hour or 2 a week in spring-summer.

Thanks jameso, sounds like a pretty positive review 🙂

presume it has standard rack mounts for the rear ?

Is it possible to get lights that run off the Shimano battery? Seems to be the thing that’s missing, but not surprising for the price I suppose.

This Ridgeback eflight is reduced at the moment and has lights, that look like they are connected to the battery.

That does look a good deal, but it needs to be from Evans as I’m using their own “bike to work” scheme.

- yes, on the seat stays plus 2 dropout eyelets each side plus a 40mm bolt space kickstand mount on the NDS driveside.

Is it possible to get lights that run off the Shimano battery? Seems to be the thing that’s missing, but not surprising for the price I suppose.

- SM-DUE01 adapter

https://www.bike24.com/p2142440.html or similar will power a dynamo light set - so yes.

(why is 'pasting as plain text' a faff now on here?)

I'm sure evans cycle to work can get you any bike that is sold retail in the UK.

So anything but planet x etc.

You'll have to ask Evans. But I'm sure cycle to work applies to all bikes they stock.

But the Halfords they'll also get on brands they don't stock. Provided they aren't the retailers own brand

Lithium ebike for £1800? Cycle to work limit is £1000. I hope Evans aren't encouraging top ups 😉

They aren’t encouraging it.

I asked and they said it was possible. But they did point out the possible downsides straight away.

I thought it was ?

Or at least it is as far as the tax break element is concerned.

Some companies are allowed to issue larger vouchers if they are “consumer credit” registered , but the tax incentive still stops at £1000 ?

Great idea.

I've a 16 mile commute, downhill all the way in and horrible on the way back.  Add in a 12 hour shift and it's not practical without trains and faff.

A decent  secondhand motorbike and clothing would be just as expensive to buy even before  running costs are considered. Much more versatile though and capable of trips further afield if circumstances change.

Interesting.

Would I start using it instead of other bikes for local work? Probably, be great for shopping. Bit pricey and pretty for leaving around though....

Nice one James.

I like the blue.

What's the difference between the men's and women's bikes, apart from the sizing?

I notice there's no small men's size.
