[Closed] What slick/semi slick road tyres 700x45 ?

I've got [url= https://www.wtb.com/products/riddler-45c ]WTB Riddler 45c[/url] tyres on my bike and they seem good on tarmac as well as off-road. That said my bike is 28lbs of steel hardtail, so not built for speed and the Riddlers might feels draggy on a road bike used exclusively on tarmac (they're very definitely semi-slick) . They're also virtually impossible to source in the UK at the moment but hopefully suppliers will be able to restock at some point.

I have Panaracer Gravelking SK in 35mm. They come in 40 too, dunno about bigger.

Excellent speed, grip and suppleness on all surfaces up to wet mud when they spin out.

Something else to look at could be Big Apples or Thunder Burts?

43mm Gravelking SKs (which PX have for £30 each currently)? They will be ~+3mm wider, so you might want the next size down.

Those are both gravel tyres which may be a bit slower on tar, if you're mostly going to stay on the road I'd look at Hutchinson Overide which are more road biased, 35 or 38mm and tubeless.

Not sure why you'd want a 45mm tyre for road use?
I have some schwalbe G ones for mixed terrain. Great tyres till it gets properly muddy. Only go up to 38mm or 40mm though I think.

I've got Compass Switchback Hill 650b x 48mm tyres. They're very comfy, very confidence inspiring, and handle gravel/ off road - except for mud/ slime.
In September we both rode Tuscany Roads on Compass 38mm tyres - 585km in three and a half days (packed) - and the additional grip and vibration reduction was noticeable, much as Jan Heine has written elsewhere.

I'm using Specialised Sawtooths.
They roll quicker than expected, go up tubeless easily & are reasonably cheap.
Pretty good off road too.

We really need more detail from the OP about the intended use, what sort of road/gravel mix % and whether this tyre needs to perform in muddy conditions etc.

If you are looking for tyres that roll well on the road at ~50/70+ PSI (f/r) of their max 85PSI, the 700x38 Marathon Cross are pretty good, Schwalbe rate them almost as good as their road tyres. Drop them to ~40/60PSI and they work very well in dry off-road.
I had one puncture on my pair since summer 2016, when a small screw just happened to pierce the tyre in-between the central shields, a very freak puncture... It was almost as if someone had sabotaged my tyre!
Their only slight downside is the wire bead, making them ~560g each.

If you are more interested in wetter off-road performance over road speed, Smart Sams might be the way forward.

I currently have Compass Barlow Pass 38c on the winter bike. I've used the Gravelking SK40 and the Barlow Pass is a far better road tyre. If you have to have the big width/volume than the Snoqualmie Pass 700/44c would suit.
Sven Cycles and Velo Vitality are the go to for the Compass tyres.
The Gravelking SKs are like having a slightly draggy brake in comparison.
Halo Twin Rail is another suggestion though I've not tried them.

I can keep up with my mates on road bikes with 40mm tubeless G-Ones. Has to get properly muddy before they lose grip.
