Pretty fit and up grading to xtr 11speed with a single ring what size do you recomend for the front coggy bit ;-)cheers peeps x
Depends what size wheel. I found a 32t on my 29er was best and I'm pretty fit (I think). If it's a 26 or 27.5 I'd start with a 34t and see how you go on. Oh and I've only got a measly 10 cogs on the back
Depends on you. Your fitness and what you ride, both bike and terrain.
Plus what cassette you'll run.
For what it's worth, though I run 10 speed, not 11, I'm happy with 34t. 11 speed would just give me an extra cog at the rear so probably one lower gear which I'd be happy with so I'd stick with 34. Some I know would rather have 32 though for lower climbing gears.
But then, are you 26, 650b, or 29? The wheel size affects things.
Heavy, more AM/DH bike and you might want smaller chainring for climbs, but then again maybe you don't do big climbs. Or you've got a faster trail / xc bike and want faster flat speed so bigger chainring.
yep all about you (awaits the I ride everything 1x9 on a 36t to I can't get above a 30t)
What do you have now, how does it go etc.
awaits the I ride everything 1x9 on a 36t
I ride everything 1x10 with a 36t 😈
I found I was fit enough to push a 34t on a 26" Wheel, 30lb Strive running 10-42 at the back, even though I'm a little over weight (5'9" - 175lb), riding in the Lakes. I have now changed to a 32t as I was using the 42t at the rear too much and wearing it out too fast as it is alloy where as the rest of the cassette is steel. Now I can get up the hills using the 36t at the rear and save the 42t for the really tough stuff.
I have a cotic soda the little whipit it....
is so 26inch wheels I ride afan mostly me thinks a 34??
You should probably try it then, can you ride afan comftably in a middle ring?
There's really 3 things that matter
1) How fit/strong you are (not the same thing- pushing a gear that's high for you, all the time, is very wearing)
2) How much compromise are you willing to make- like singlespeed, sometimes some of the point of single ring isn't how well it does the job, it's the things it can't do.
3) What end do you want to compromise on- frexample I used to always push a big gear on descents, it wasn't until I got out of that habit that 1x10 was an option for me, 34/11 wasn't high enough for the way I liked to ride.
Haha not comfortably but those couple of extra gears might make the difference....
I know what you mean mr north wind I do like a challenge 😉
Go 33T but remember, you'll need a wide wide chain too 😉
It is a shame you cannot change the individual rings on the back as you can on the front but that is wat they do eh???
Wide wide???
Mtbel you are a pest bugger off!!! X X X
he he.. sorry pecker.. as everyone is telling you. only You can decide.
I'll add to NWs advice though.
4) how long you ride for
True dat. I was sort of including it in 1, but it's worth the extra point.
