During today ride in the lakes i kinda found that my shimano dx tend to get very heavy as they're full of water. My feet were also freezing due to ingress into my sealskins. So I'm looking for some shoes that a)
Won't soak up loads of water and b) reasonably "warm" i.e. not have a lot of venting. I'm not looking for winter boots as they seem to hold water too. So I`m looking for suggestions with prices under a hundred quid, cheers!
Epicyclo uses sandals and Sealskinz socks.....
winter boots - seal the ankle with gaffe tape.
HTH
seal the ankle with gaffe tape
Cut down heavy duty Marigolds are a better option.
So you wants something warm - so with insulation, that's doesn't hold water. Holy grail then!
Or summer shoes with goretex socks over woolie boolies!
tried that approach yesterday - water over the top of the socks!!
Old way of keeping your feet dry. Plastic bags over your socks and tape the tops up.
mmmmm sweaty feet
Haven't found a shoe that doesn't get wet, so I just wear a pair of neoprene socks which are at least warm. They do smell though. Bad. I mean, really bad. Really, really bad.
Get longer socks??cruzheckler - Member

What are you wearing over them - some sort of tights or 3/4s?
gortex....
what are those overshoe things like ? neva tried them....anyone ?
I had a wet old ride around Llandegla today, all of my me was wet cold and miserable except my feet in an ancient pair of seal skinz and 5.10s
Shoes always get full of water when I ride. For some reason water is magnetic...
That's why I wear sandals when it gets down to zero - the water runs out, and I leave the waterproofing to my SealSkinz. I started doing this after getting frozen feet too many times because of the trapped water turning to ice.
Other times I wear walking boots which are ok if you don't step in water higher than the top.
I have found the answer. Endura stealth tights over sealskinz. I use 5:10s or Teva Links. The links are colder when wet but lighter. If you are on spds then just put on overshoes with stealth tights on top. Actually I might try that with my links.
Thanks for the responses Im using stealth tights over seal skins at the mo. I may as for shoes I'll hunt around .
I use a couple of livestrong-style wristbands and put them over the top of my Sealskin socks making the seal better for when water/mud splash on to my leg then drains down to the sock...not foolproof but an improvement. I then wear a pair of Shimano gore-tex shoes (MT60): they are low sided (not boots with neoprene) but do the job pretty well. I actually do have Shimano gore-tex boots but the combo above keeps my feet dry in the wet so the boots seem overkill.

That's why you need the marigolds. Cut them off at the wrist, original open end goes over your socks and the wrist grips your legs. The heavy duty ones come in black if your not into dayglo yellow or pink.
