We've all got one. The pile of knackered bits that are a 'bit' broken, or 'slightly' ****ed. I'll leave them in the corner as... You never know.... they might come in useful one day. Though they never actually bloody do

Looked at the discarded pile of worn tyres, ripped seats and warped disc rotors this morning I counted 5 Shimano back mechs 4XT, 1LX. 5. All of a recent vintage. All knackered. This doesn't included the ones I've REALLY knackered - bent in half or in one case snapped clean in two

Whats most represented in your pile of junk then?

not true.

they always become useful, the day after you finally bite the bullet and throw them out.

everything ive ever thrown out, ive needed within a week of it going.

FACT

Properly broken bits = deraileurs.

Worn bits = cassettes (hundreds of them)

Hmmmm. No wonder I'm liking my Alfine hub.

Edit: I also have a huge number of rear lights that have broken in one way or another, plus loads of mounting hardware for them which weren't ever used or have been removed and kept 'just in case'.

Mech hangers. They seem to breed in my toolbox.

Rear mechs - I've got 4 snapped or knackered ones, after that mech hangers.

I don't think I've ever broken anything else, apart from chains.

The pile of 1.8", skinny-sidewall, fast-rolling tread tyres abandoned in our bike workshop is getting ridiculous... 😆

Rear rims....

Normally cracked 721's
or dented FR600s

Only thing that has slowed it down is mtx 29s!! There bombproof!

Saddles, don't know why I've got 5 spare, might be useful, worn out, too heavy saddles under the work bench.
Everyone will have tubes that need mending & tyres that aren't quite knackered.

Tyres - gots loads of them - many used only a few times, because I always come back to the same tyre in the end!

tyres. Our back bedroom looks like a rubber fetishist's wet dream come true.

Good though cos I'm building up sufficient to make a gimp suit which will be my wife's christmas present.

not necessarily broken but collecting here:
tyres just a scary number, seemed important once now ride the same pair what ever, 😯
then rear mechs half a dozen - might work out how to fix/use the bits one day,
quite a few stems, shorter each year? so lots of longer ones in the box
no chains or cassettes though 😕

I came across 3 XTR cassettes and KMC X9-SL chains in the garage, they're all worn, but I couldn't bear to throw them out at the time, obviously thought I'd use them again, they went in the bin!

A cracked cove hustler frame is hanging fro a nail in the garage wall.
Had it powdercoated, and a week later the top tube/ seat tube weld cracked..

Broken SRAM rear mechs. Brake pads that almost have "just one more ride" left in them.

Tyres. Even treadbare ones with perished looking rubber I still seem to think might be a useful contingency one day. Of course, in reality the contingency would be never ever to ride again rather than use any of them.

And rotors. I've an abundance of stupid annoying expensive rotors that've been wrecked by getting a stick of candyfloss or cotton wool caught in them.
