Like Stans can? No rubber rim tapes, just sticky yellow stans tape?

Ive got my 717's taped and seem to be ok, think the rear only has leccy tape on it IIRC

I did the bontrager rims my trek came with using gaffs tape without any problem. Couldn't get the fsa rim on my 29er to inflate no matter what...
