I ordered some disc pads on Saturday and didn't even get a notice of despatch till yesterday, still no sign of them today. My LBS order on Monday and most stuff is in stock by Wed/Thurs. It's a waste of time using CRC if they take this long 🙄

CRC do seem to bit a bit slower but I think Royal Mail are the main issue. Some of the stuff I've ordered has taken a week to arrive and currently waiting for a camera that was dispatched by amazon on the 4th Jan.

Don't know how RM get away with having a monopoly and p-poor service.

Royal Mail don't have a monopoly - and if you want to see what poor service at high prices is wait and see what happens when it gets privatised and renamed Deutsche Post.

I wouldn't worry about it...I'm still waiting on a game ordered from Play.com on 25th Dec and four items posted together from HK on 10th Dec. 😐

I have never had a problem with CRC always here next day if paid for or usually day after that if not.

I guess that's the trade off, if you want it now pay extra at your LBS.

I received an order on Monday but opened it to find they had sent me another persons order! I was quite tempted to keep it as it was 600 quid of groupset! Sent it back but not heard a peep yet.

If I paid the extra for next day I'd be just as well off buying from the shop down the road (not my LBS). The main reason for me using CRC in the past has been the next day delivery FOC, if they can't manage that any more I'll shop elsewhere. 🙁

Day 10 of waiting for my order now. Day 35 of waiting for a play.com order.

I don't blame the companies I've ordered from though, I suspect it's all RM.

you want it quick take a walk down your small LBS, pay their prices and have it in your hands almost instantly
You want it cheap, order off a huge internet retailer and wait a few days (ie more than 3 working days ffs)

Simples!

My LBS has no stock but can order in about a week. CRC is usually quicker but they are hogtied by the post.

I think the winter has been the tipping point for the Royal Mail, and it's now officially broken. DeutchePost? Yes please, it can't be any worse.

Thinking back about 6yrs, we used to order up to 4, even 5pm & it would be here next morning. What has changed in that time ? I know CRC have grown but I guess RM have got worse in that time. Very sad.
My LBS, Swinnertons on Cannock Chase, wanted £74.99 for the new Hex last Sunday. Paid £47 on CRC. Guess I'll just have to wait.

Royal mail is completely broken. "the business model is completely shot (it's disorganised, massive mgr overhead, huge union issues you name it)" that from one of their own directors who I used to work with!

Not convinced privatisation is the right route but some ****er needs to sort it.

Rant over. Hope your stuff arrives soon!

I went to the LBS first, nil stock, and still nil stock today, so I'd have been no better off, my LBS price match CRC so money isn't an issue BTW.

The wheels have come off with Royal Mail by the sounds of it.... There still clearing the backlog caused by Christmas bad weather.

I ordered some tyres 11 days ago. Finally arrived today..

It's not the post that's a problem for me. My order of in stock items placed on Tuesday at 8.20am is still showing as processing. The stuff I orderd at the same time from On-One arrived yesterday. I wish they'd just get it in the post in the first place.

Its not the unions that's the problem with RM, its the stupid legislation that means that they have to deliver mail at less than cost collected by the privately owned "competition". The tax payer is basically subsidising private profits and the delivery of reams of junk mail that drops through the letterbox every morning.

The stuff I ordered from CRC on Christmas day will, apparantly be arriving tomorrow. That one was thier fault. Five days late on my gear from Superstar was the fault of Interlink though. Never had problems with internet shopping before, I've made up for it this week.

I've noticed CRC being a bit slower recently, but it seems to be half CRC and half Royal Mail.

I'm currently having more trouble with Wiggle. Have had to return a frame to them as it was dented, but they seem completely incapable of replying to emails in a timely manner - or in most cases, at all.

Very disappointing.

CRC were very slow for my last order of some High Five electrolyte thingies and a disc brake adapter.

Ordered 31st December, arrived 12th January, in a massive over sized box too, what is it with the boxes?

I've just had to return the adapter as I bought one elsewhere thinking the order was lost.

Shame, normally excellent but guess the Post office may be letting them down.

+1

When living in Germany I ordered some M/C boots, they got returned twice to the supplier - seems DP couldn't find our house...

You know it's funny, I noticed the same problem with CRC last summer. Took a week plus for stuff to turn up, and I felt bad about shafting my LBS.

Then spent £400 plus on XT kit from CRC for prices my LBS couldn't compete with. Ever since then CRC orders get to me really quickly. Go figure?!

I had the same thing happen to me Jools, got two BB spacers today in a box that was a similar size to yours. Why an envelope wouldn't have sufficed I'll never know. 😀

Stop slagging ChainReaction! They're really good for the trade and ensure that all us bike shops can survive to show you the most recent bikes and kit!

CRC have been consistently good for me too, and clearly are at the mercy of RM. My order arrived today though - mauybe took a day or two longer than normal, but it also arrived in a spectacularly large box. Seatpost and valve caps in something you could have put a kids bike in! 😯

i find their new packaging seems very tamper proof too.. most impressed even if it does take me about 5 minutes to get into a cardboard box!

I blame RM - an item I ordered with CRC was posted the next day but took over a week to arrive.

It was a small item which CRC posted in a box too big to fit through a standard letterbox so it got carded 🙄

I've also been selling alot of stuff on Ebay recently - all posted RM 1st class recorded it's been taking an average of 4 days to arrive. Very poor RM.

Same here. Ordered 661 Wrist guards on the 28th Dec. so I can ride with peace of mind after breaking my scaphoid.
Checked the order and then I rang CRC and they dispatched on the 29th Dec.
Still no sign of them.

I know it's RM.
It was late at night I ordered them, and I neglected to get them delivered to work, which is always very quick (business address etc)
We've been struggling since way before Christmas with out local distribution hub for RM.
Only reason my kids got what they wanted from Santa, was the fact I got it all delivered to work ! 🙄

My order has just arrived, nine days after I placed it. The fact that CRC didn't despatch it for four days didn't help and the rest can be blamed on the RM, so roughly 50/50 to blame. 🙄 Mind you the LBS delivery didn't turn up either.
