I'm looking for several sets of light for a race (team of 4) but budget is limited.

Any recommendations for a decent light output and a burn time of three hours for around 100 quid a set? I know I won't get a flame thrower for this money but something with a decent compromise to light/spread/burn time is what I'm after.

Also can anyone remember which Singletrack issue the lights test was in just in case I want to stretch the budget?

Time is running out on me so I don't think I can wait for a Trout Light Productions to start retailing!

Cheers
Macyver

If you only need them for 1 race then try hiring them.

Find out who is doing light support at the race and give them a ring.

I've hired from Lumicycle before (For Clic24) and they were great.

Yep, fair point but as far as I know there is no rental at the races hence the need to buy.

either the new P7 specific bike light from Dealextreme, or one of these DX P7 torches and Troutferrets battery kit.
(hit the tag at the top)

They mean this one for dealextreme I believe, looks a lot of light for the money.

Lumicycle will post the lights out to you I think. It'll add to the cost though.

Give em a ring and have a chat about what you require, they were very helpful on the phone when I arranged mine.

FYI we hired the 1 x HID lampunit per team and 2 batterys. Came to about £50 ish. It doesnt take long to swap the light and battery from 1 bike to another.

Trout,

Thankyou for the offer

I've left it a little late - typical of me really. It's next week! 4 days of adventure racing with a night bike stage to start on the wednesday!

Heck, one day I might even plan with time to spare.

Trout,

3 hours is the minimum - we've been told that's the duration of the stage. I've been working out what my DIY set might burn to if I swap out the 50watt bulb for a 25 watt. Thing is a 12 volt 7.2AH lead acid battery weighs loads. Allowing for perfomance drop due to cold weather etc using a 25 Watt dicachronic should provide just enough for three hours but the 2 inch plastic waste pipe/vegemite end cap construction is getting a bit rickety and unreliable!
