On a serious note though, spare tube, levers and pump (all useless by themselves). Always thought a repair kit was good enough until I got 5 snake bites in one go (10 holes) and ran out of patches!

It is a pump or some Co2 you only walk home once until you realise you really need to carry some sort of punture kit with you.I know somebody who had to walk 6 miles to get home on some carbon soled shoes which split with the walking

I've walked home before but I wouldn't be stupid enough to leave those sort of shoes on they'd be crippling - was it some sort of self-flagellation for breaking down?

Depends where I'm riding. If its just local stuff I won't bother taking anything, if a bit further away/a longer ride then I'll take a drink, spare tube, patches (not that I've got a bloody pump though 😆 ), multi-tool, chain breaker and of course a helmet. I can do without gloves, in fact I had to take mine off earlier as they have a little too much excess palm material and my hands were moving more than without them on.

No single item but I usually use at least one of these...

Allen key set, chain tool, zip ties, 3 inner tubes, pump, brake pads, power link, tyre levers.
2 or 3 water bottles and usually a thermos with coffee.
Paclite jacket and except if its baking hot, overtrousers
Spare contact lenses and glasses. Bit of money. Phone.

Helmet (goes without saying).
Map and GPS if I'm on my own.

A paperclip

Not really sure why, but I've asked on more than one occasion "Have you got something like a paperclip?"

After an article in SingleTrack (i think) I've been riding with minimal kit. Granted only local jaunts, so the walk home wouldn't be more than a handfull of miles.

I can't remember the last time I had a puncture, and never (touching wood) had a mechanical that stopped it rolling.

Just me, the bike, helmet and clothes. Liberating. Though I guess without the clothes would be more liberating!
