right, 2 night rides, within 1 week, on same bike, same outcome, finally learned lesson.

= on a full suss, with a chain device, with a 36tooth big ring double, simple big-big and 2 link overlap chain length is not enough. esp when hit a dip and need to crank out the hole.

Grraaaaaaccckkkkk 2 x rear mechs totally eaten and 1x mech hanger. Idiot. Figured it out last night and feel like an idiot. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

feel my pain, and shame, but rather glad I have figured it out!

Yep, take the air out of the shock when working out chain length - just to make sure.

What FS is it that seems to move the axle backwards so far, or is it the chain device - you did take the chain device into account when working out the length, didn't you?

I'm assuming you also removed the shock or the air from the shock and fully compressed the rear suspension when sizing the chain?

Br and bob = no and no. Well, now, yes, but both of those points are exactly why I am a mong.

In my defence, I have only ever been working it out previously on triple ring front, and I would never actually ride big-big on the triple, on any bike, so it has never been an issue. Also, on the mega, I have only been using it for bike parks tis year so these trail rides are the first time I have really ridden it like a trail bike. Poo!

dont worry, same thing happened to me, ok, well it only happened once to me ๐Ÿ™‚ . Annoyingly it was when I lent my bike to a mate and he did a drop in big \ big rings whiich I probably wouldn't have done .

when I finally put enough links in to allow the full movement on big \ big the chain was slack in the top three gears at the back when using the granny ring. anyone else found this ? I'm thinking that the solution would either be a chain device or a longer cage mech

Solution is don't use those gears. You could run a longer cage mech, but they're not good gears to be in anyway, and it's not catastrophic if you select them by accident. A chain device would surely just mean you needed an even longer chain to avoid problems in big/big, which would nullify any benefit when in small/small?
