My nephew is getting a balance bike for his 2nd birthday and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a suitable bike helmet?
Thanks
Doug
Not sure he needs one for a balance bike - but if you're just trying to setup good habits etc then literally just buy him whatever he likes that fits. Kids helmets are really not that advanced IME.
I thought children bounced?
Probably a clear indication that I should never be a father...
We got a Specialized one cos that's what they had in the shop, a Small Fry I think. Did the job for a year or two, not too heavy or annoying for him. I reckon it's a good idea to get them used to wearing one straight off.

Sold them for 8 years at Halfords, easy to fit. Just bought my 19 month daughter one. I think it's the only helmet that goes that small?
+1 for MET buddy or supoer Buddy
mine has saved my wee one from some nasty bumps and grazes, remember they are very much still learning when out on their balance bikes
Cheers for the advice, it could well be overkill, however I grew up with no helmet = no riding, so I think my sis will probably be the same with him.
+1 for getting the bike=helmet habit started.
We tried loads for ours, Spec Small Fry fitted both our 2 really well from a young age, lots of adjustment at the back.
My lads used this, Spesh Helmet with Ninja Turtles on it.
Liked it because it came down further at the back.

This......
My wee lad (2yrs) wears his proudly.. It fits and adjust really well, adjusts much lower under the occipital bone (than the Mets and Giros any way, which we also sell plenty of as thy're cheaper).
Very cool looking lids for wee folk.
"it could well be overkill"
Personally, when my lad was learning on a balance bike at two he was mostly on grass, and in terms of him hitting the deck I was more concerned about the fact that a helmet would massively increase the size of his head - and would thus massively increase twisting/bending forces on his neck (which is still quite feeble at that age) - than any likely direct impact.
YMMV.
And +1 for the "buy something that fits properly and that they like" approach. Kids' heads come in all sorts of shapes; and you'd do the same for yourself, after all.

I appreciate what you're saying there. Unfortunately they live over in Spain and it's a bit more built up, so not the luxury of grass to break the fall, more concrete and rocky paths.
Many thanks all, will have a look at those recommended and see what she can get out there.
Mm, helmet wiser on concrete and pointy rocks ๐
