Bought this as a commuter.
It is a Claud Butler with a 653 frame. Drive chain is 7spd LX but doubt it is original. Zoom bar and stem - again, dunno if original. Other than that, no idea what it rolled out the shop as. Decals are all but gone.
Anyone care to hazard a guess? Since it is entirely fit for purpose as it is (minus bar ends)doesn't matter too much, but would be nice to know.

Zoom was a subdivision of Raleigh, so likely to have come from them, that LX places it 1993-1996ish.
chances are it'll probably ride better than it has a right to.
The old butler frames made of steel were actually quite nicely put together way back when.
njee20 - fair nuff but just sort of wanted to put a name to the face - maybe it had a specific model name beyond just being a '653 Claud Butler'
Aah, I see. As you've rightly ascertained, even if it did it probably bears no resemblance to what you have there now!
