Original equipment. As fitted by the manufacture and will possibly/probbably come without any box

Original Equipment, i.e. the stuff the manufacturers provide at lower prices to the main bike brands. Possibly a gray import, you might have warantee problems in the future if anything goes wrong.

Original Equipment, ie as supplied direct to the bike manufacturer. Probably won't come in a box or with instructions, 'cause bike manufacturers don't need either.

Original Equipment.
Something bought in bulk by the bike cos but never fitted. Usually identical to non OE stuff but tends to come without packaging, manuals, etc, hence usually cheaper.

[EDIT] Beaten by 3 secs!

original equipment

means it was intended for fitting to a bike for subsequent retail as a built up bike

surplus OE kit often sod cheaper to the public, generally without packaging or manuals

spec may differ slightly from after market kit depending on what was specified by the original intended user.

Given that your warranty is with (at least in principal) the retailer it doesn't matter where they happen to have sourced the goods from. Of course in practice it might be necessary to go to the manufacturer, but for something like a rear mech I wouldn't personally worry about it.

My FSA OS 115 stem was an OE one - cost me £28 from Wiggle. No box or anything but identical to a non-OE one. Even at chainreaction's current £60 (rather than RRP £114) discounted price, that ends up a lot of money for a box. I'm sure an OE mech will be fine.
