up to say £200, not bothered about tubeless

I did have some Fulcrum racing sport but the rear bearings are shot after 240 miles (2 months, no racing) and the freehub feels like a pawl or a spring is broken (or something makes it not click smoothly) so looks like the are going back under warranty

I had some Fulcrum wheels (can't remember which ones now) and the bearing pre-load (despite them being sealed bearings) needed adjusting after a couple hundred miles they where fine after that initial bedding in.

I've been using Mavic Aksiums - admittedly mostly on the road. Should be under £140 by now.

I'm building myself some WTB CX Team rims onto Novatec d771/2 hubs with Sapim D Light spokes for just slightly above that budget. Should be around 1600g which is hard to beat at that price point.

If you don't fancy building yourself Kinesis crosslight v3s are supposed to be great as long as you don't run road pressures

Just over your budge, Merlin have the Kinesis Crosslight CX Wheelset..

There are some wheels going cheap in the Planet X liquidation. A Vision 30 wheelset and a WTB/Selcof combo too..

They're both heavier than the Kinesis wheels though...

Can you tell I've been shopping around for the same thing? 🙂

Can you not change the shot bearings and freehub?

wouldnt recommend the Kinesis; alloy nipples and low spoke count/high spoke tension do not a happy couple make. I'm 65kg and I've had 3 front nipples crack when throwing my Griepel-like bulk and power side to side out the saddle 🙄

Get rid of the fulcrums while you can, tbh, they're not terrible wheels but the customer service when it exists at all is awful.

I'm just a wee lad an mine have started to go too. That after the rear hub split in two. Not a fan.

Built a set of CX disc wheels from Novatec D771/D772 Hubs, DT Swiss 460db rims and Sapim Race spokes. Cost me around £150 in parts and weigh just over 1600g. I run them tubeless with WTB Crosswolf tyres. Raced in 3 CX races and they have been fantastic.

Yeah, a lot of the nipples on the rear of my kinesis cross wheels pair disintegrated/corroded and split. Others just sheared when I tried to tighten them. They are being used on my winter road bike tho, so I can understand it to a point. But it does seem like they're the softest alloy nipples I've ever come across on a wheel.

They've got more spokes than some of my mtb wheels with alu nipples; I'd suspect it's more that they've used crap parts.

Also have the Fulcrums and the bearings are rubbish. They are only sealed on one side. My front one is actually okay but the rear freehub has been replaced and the new one is already on the way out. You can only replace the non drive side bearing, the drive side is an non serviceable so the whole freehub has to be replaced (£35).

Looking at the Novatec CXDs as a replacement and will stick the ice tyres on the Fulcrum as I only use them on short commutes.

You do know Fulcrum use the CX moniker to denote double sealed bearings?

Not on the wheels I have there not! Have replaced the non drive side with a proper sealed bearing now. The weak link in the wheel is the drive side. It is a integrated freehub and drive side bearing you can't service. It also must use tissue paper for the bearing seals!

Planet x have FSA vision 40 metron hubs with 35% off & pacenti cl25 rims. My lbs built up using dt revolutions, they are ace wheels and 11speed.
Cost less than £200 inc hope qrs

Spangels, sorry-poorly phrased. Fulcrum sell wheels with and without "CX" in the model name, the wheels labeled CX have double-sealed bearings.
