[#7659300]

My plan to build up a Stanton Sherpa didn't work out and I've sort of lost faith in the brand a bit. Was looking forward to building it this weekend as well ๐Ÿ™

Cheer me up and give me a few other ideas. Solaris and Pipedream pics particularly welcome

Thanks, it's a Kona Unit. Was toying with changing it for a Sherpa.

What issues have you found?

Thanks. It's a large and I'm 6' . I run it with 120mm forks a 50mm stem and 740mm bars, which suits me well. Plus size is still an experiment, but it's nice to have the option.

Here's my Solaris after finishing the build then out on a night ride a few days ago:

Personally I think you've dodged a bullet there, I demo'ed the Sherpa and Solaris and thought the Solaris was much better ๐Ÿ™‚

Some plumbing tubes just bring the tone down a bit.

Cut out the middle man, buy some pipe and make your own fugly creation ๐Ÿ™‚

And before anyone asks, the effective seat angle is 72 degrees - the bent tube running at 66 deg and 400mm chainstays make it look a lot slacker.....

I've reported these pictures to the moderators for being far too awesome and making me feel sad that I have to go to work instead.

Shameless plug....

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-stanton-sherpa-19-frame-and-headset-1

I've owned a Mk1 Solaris and the Sherpa and found the Sherpa to ride better, the only mistake I made was to order a L Sherpa when I rode an XL Solaris

Some fantastic pics here. Love that last one of the Kona by breadcrumb.

Solaris seems to be the way to go and tbh I was on the verge of buying one a week ago

But then again....that Chromag looks tempting...

Chromag Rootdown frames are reduced to 485 in the shore lines sale.

Whats the problem with the Sherpa and the Stanton brand? Can you expand? They seem well thought of.

Love my Sherpa but I'll take a wild guess that the OP's frame delivery got bumped as they are in Italy according to their website. .. if so. Unlucky fella.

mick r - Your frames look quite interesting. I've been meaning to have a crack at frame building.

Do you have any info on how you went about it? Where did you get your tube sets?

Thanks

Ceeway for Columbus tubing www.framebuilding.com

Do you have any kind of engineering / making things background? If not then I'd suggest starting with the good folks at www.thebicycleacademy.org

Whilst we've got some Stooge owners - can someone roughly measure the top tube(s) diameter? I've got plans for an oddball CX bike using the tubes for simple internal cable runs and a nice curved section for comfy shoulder carrying. I'm lightweight so considering 14mm (I'd guess Stooge is around 16mm).

Really like ssboggys bike - is that a Blackbuck?

Only using a tape and I've been on the Westons vintage but looks about 16/17mm

Now with fewer spacers and a shorter stem, but definitely a keeper.

My Solaris looks vaguely like RP's so I won't bore you with a similar pic but I will say it's a great bike.

I'm also intrigued by the Stanton story too.

Thanks mick. I'm a fabricator, so plenty of of experience just move in building a frame.

Did you use a jig?

How much do ceeway charge for a typical tube set? What wall thickness did you go for?

Unfortunately I don't have access to any mandrels for bending tube at work, but I do like your curved seat tube.
