New (to me) smart bike (Stages SB20) landed last night. If you've never tried Shiply to hire a man with a van for moving stuff, give them a try. It got planning permission for installing in the house from SWMBO on the proviso we can both use it. We'll swap the seatmasts over with different saddles and adjust all the dimensions but swapping the pedals between users is one step too far. So we need a set of pedals for both of us. I don't see her ever using anything other than some soft gym shoes and I'll want to be in cleated bike shoes. Ideally spd-sl road shoes but if it's just SPDs I could live with that. So, it looks like I'm after a pair of those 2-sided pedals that are cleats on one side and flats on the other.
Anything better (and by better I guess I mean actually better or just as good but cheaper) that Shimano PD EH-500?
You can use any Shimano SPD pedal along with the SM-PD22 converter. I doubt the grip on the converter would be as good as proper pins though.
(I have a pair of SM-PD22 if you want them)
FWIW I prefer MTB style cleats/shoes for indoor use but I guess it depends on your setup/location. Road cleats are more likely to damage flooring and can be a health risk if you have shiny floors 😉
Shimano do nice Indoor shoes too if you're going all in on it.
lots of options on AliExpress for £10-15
will be getting some myself in the next few weeks as it’s getting closer to turbo-season
