I'll be building up a Scandal soon probably with a cheaper cartridge bottom bracket setup. I've an unused 113mm axled Octalink chainset lying around. It's left over from an older 853 Inbred build on account of the 853 Inbred having ridiculously little chainring clearance with a 50mm chainline (118mm axle) and next to none with the 113mm (47.2mm chainline I think).
The Scandal has similar looking bridgless stays (haven't seen it in the metal yet) so what chainline should I be looking at to minimise messy chainsuck damage? Could I get away with a 113mm axle or should I go for 50mm (118mm)?
No one?
It's the same as my Inbred, so that'll be 50mm. Not tried with gears myself though...
Definately 50mm. I confirmed it with OnOne last year.
my scandal (29er) has been tun SS and geared (2x9) i was concerned with clearance for the 36T middle when geared. asked on here, asked on one but no-one knew.
anyway set it up and 36T middle is fine.
all of this is external BB, correct spacers, and middle position (ie 50mm)
HTH
Well it's hopefully a vertical dropout frame and will be running gears but it sounds like 50mm is the safe option. It's probably not worth risking a mangled chainstay to save a few quid.
Thanks for the info.
