I am setting my P7 hardtail up with a single 34t chainring on XT cranks (9 speed cassette) and am wondering what to use for a chain guide. I had a look at the E13 ones and they look good but one gets a poor review for use with XT cranks, so, what do you suggest.....
Thanks
Blackspire stinger is cheap and works and the superstar one gets reasonable reviews.
I've used Gamut and RaceFace on XT cranks without issue.
stinger is a bottom roller so wont help much with keeping a single ring on. superstar ones seem fine if a bit flexy.
if you want something with a bash guard/skid plate then an e13 lg1 or mrp mini g2 are the best ive tried. the mrp slightly clinches it for me because its slightly easier to set up without any chain rub at the extremes of the cassette. both are ace though.
if you prefer a bash ring to a taco then the 13 srs is great though the straitline silentguide gets the thumbs up from my mate.
I use a E13 SS+ with my SLX cranks and it is great.
On my hardtail I use the Superstar single-ring chain guide, without a tensioner, and it works fine.
If you shorten your chain you may not necessarily need a tensioner, depending on what type of riding you do.
Oh, and I'm not sure if you are bothered about warranty, but some bikes are not designed to use taco bashes, and therefore it may invalidate your warranty if that is the case.
all good stuff. Not bothered about a bashring but also dont mind if it has one. Not that bothered about warranty.
Will have a look at the various types mentioned, thanks.
Check out the pauls chain keeper, clean light and infinitely adjustable for chain line.
Have both the tube mount and BB mount versions on various setups. Picked them both up new from Ebay.
