I love my pompino but I completely hate canti brakes. I will put my fingers in ears if anyone tells me it is setup blah blah blah. Today's ride was the last straw with the cacophony of grating and the total lack of stopping at all off road.
I want a frame where I can run singlespeed on drop bars, prefer horizontal dropout at the back, 700c wheels with a fork and rear that will accept caliper brakes. It will go mostly off road. Must be available as frame only with stealth delivery mechanism that sneaks it past the wife. I could go disks, but the wheels will end up costing too much.
Any ideas?

eh?
Have I said something silly? By caliper brakes I mean road bike type brakes.
Track ends
Calipers
Off road capability
Most frames with track ends are only 120mm OLN, and are erm track frames. Not all though.
Caliper brakes, as found on road bikes?
Off road capability with that spec?
just run v brakes with travel agents
Edric +1
Or V brakes and V brake compatible brake levers
Indeed you want singlespeed so get some Diacompe 297 V brake levers and some V brakes. As others have said, it's a 120 OLN rear non dished rear wheel at the back, and there wont be any clearance for mud.
mini V brakes, mine worked fine with road levers
(want to buy 'em ? - sale or return)
Run V-brakes with some 287v levers on your pompino.

For a while I had an 1980-ish frame for 27" wheels with horizontal dropouts 126mm OLN, put 700c wheels in it, got some deep drop calipers (later had a 700c fork with shorter reach brakes). There was plenty of space for wider tyres on the back. No sloping top tube though!
So if you enjoy a good cheap bodge and aren't trying to impress anyone, that's one option.
Mini V's with normal levers. Much easier setup. Still nowhere near the stopping power of disc, but you get rid of the juddery front and straddle cable faff.
pompetamine fork + front brake makes a massive difference to a pompino. I'll have one for sale cheap in a week or two.
mini-v's ..hmm do you promise they will be better than cantis? Also, will I need to ditch the stock levers that came on the pompino?
