I normally ride my Scott genius everywhere and it has never let me down, I was speaking to few young downhillers though last week and they said I'd need something more burly?? Thinking about buying a dh bike within the next few week anyhow, anyone ridden parkwood and what are your thoughts on bike choice?
Thanks, rich.

I did it on a singlespeed with 80mm forks & semi-slicks

It's a 2km blue route with two small red options.

Those young DHers were having you on.

A 4X bike would be the most ideal bike there.

Parkwood is pretty much a groomed, smooth pump track that just so happens to point DH. Then you have a bit you need to pedal back up.

Your genius will be fine unless you're landing every jump to sideways and flat. Maybe pump up your suspension to a maximum of 20% sag too (remembering to adjust your rebound so it's slower so you're not buckerooing all over the place).

Serious?

Parkwood is like a big smooth bmx track, last time I was there it was being ridden by all sorts of folk on anything from a Argos BSO to a quite fast guy (sarcasm) on a carbon Blur. Ride what you've got, it's fun. I prefer my 4X hardtail (100mm fork, Larsen TT) to my full sus, it's faster.

However a DH bike would be rubbish up there.

Agreed. I've ridden both my SB66 and my Canyon 29er HT and preferred the Canyon.

Just to clarify, my "sarcasm" wasn't that the guy was slow, quite opposite it was Peaty showing the local councillor round. Both guys from entirely different ends of the riding spectrum, both having fun!

not my best vid admittedly, but it does show you dont need a dh bike.

We'd have spent more time filming but it was grim.
