My boy is 4 1/2 and has been riding without stabilisers since before he was 3. He does jumped/kerbs etc but his bike issnt the best, hand me down from a mate. Fitted new brake levers today as his barrel adjusters were broken. But the V end is a bit rubbish too. Wheels are not perfect etc.

So for birthday I thought we'd get him a nice one. But which?

No real budget but it won't be more than my spearfish lol

Not the cheapest bikes in the world but with features like brake levers designed for kids they are good quality bikes

yea just look at Jackson Goldstone's bikes and build one the same. either that in the link above or his little dh bike from the growing up in whistler vid. if the budget is no problem then go for it. the better/lighter/stronger the bike the more fun he is going to have and he will also learn quicker..... i wish i had good bikes when i was a kid!

If he can fiton a 20" wheeled bike, i'd recommend a Trek mt60. Or you could hold out a little longer.it's a slippery slope. My eldest has just graduated to an Anthem x2.

Isla bikes...
Can't beat them, ideal until they can fit on a full sized bike, great re-sale value as well.

My 6 year old lad is on a spesh hotrock 20 and loves it. He's had specialized bikes since he was one & half, 14 to 16 and now on the 20 inch wheel and I think this will last him till he's 8. Have sold his old ones no problem.

Kona do a cool one "kona Shred" discs brakes and all to get some street cred at the bmx track.

Islabikes probably but Orbea are doing some really nice youngsters bikes too.
Islabikes have a really strong resale value, while Orbea are a bit of an unknown quantity do resale.
But 4&1/2 and hopping curbs?
That's cookin on gas in my book!!
