MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Haven't been before and will be heading there between Xmas and new year. Not sure which bike to take and would appreciate some advice 😀
I've got:
DJ with gears (so more 4x I guess)
29er HT ragley Marley with 130mm forks
26 FS, old but pops off jumps well
(Assuming the 170mm 29er enduro sled is massive overkill and should stay at home.😂)
Thanks in advance.
The Ragley Hardtail.
It was in pretty bad shape last time I was there about a year ago. The trails are nothing special so I'd skip the MTB stuff.
I'd take the DJ bike and play on the jumps. Jow often do you get to ride that bike?
Enduro bike and go to wharny or stainburn instead
Or hardtail and explore Leeds cheeky tech bits and singletrack
I’ve only been there once, but had a hire Marin San Quentin which worked out alright.
Depends what you want to do really - if you’re happy on the pump track bit and the bigger tables at the top then DJ. If you’re going to get bored on that relatively quickly the take the hardtail.
Not the full suss or Enduro bike.
full sus.
the trails are pretty rubbish for anything else. zero up keep on everything .
i ride the a couple of times a week.
As above, DJ and play on the jumps/BMX track/pump track. The route through the woods was rubbish years ago when I last went and weirdly a video popped up on YT last night of a fella riding LUBP and the red through the woods still looks rubbish. I remember the jumpy stuff near the cafe actually being pretty good fun. Don't let your bike out of your sight either...
Mainly Surrons now trashing everything I believe.
I used to go regular with my lad to session stuff, the he went to Uni and it’s lost its appeal as a solo rider. There does seem to be a lot of negativity around the maintained side of the facility, but I’m not sure of the funding of the place.
It’s also the only place in all the bike parks of the uk I’ve visited where I’ve had to scrape people (none of whom I knew) off the floor as they bit off more than they could chew on the big jumps and quarry drops. Three times this has happened to me there.
Seriously OP - I'd go elsewhere TBH. What sort of thing are you after/where are you coming from?
BMX track is decent, so DJ bike for that. The jump line with the bridge can be fun. The trails at the top are dull, and the main trail through the woods is battered and IMO the jumps are too big and/or not very well shaped, although can still be fun for a couple of laps.
But as a place to go near the centre of a major city I think it decent.
I'd rather go Greno or Stainburn depending on where you're staying though.
i shall be there on Boxing day no doubt.
NBD from Santa for grandson,
Yeah - I live in Leeds and have only been to LUBP twice I think! It's 'OK' I guess, but if you're in/near Leeds, there's much better on offer, particularly on the north edge of Leeds.
I, or @el_boufador can show you around or give you some Strava routes to work from. Ragley HT would be fine.
Or, head up to Stainburn, or south to Wharncliffe/ Greno (170mm Enduro)
Or, head up to Stainburn
Is it worth a trip these days? I'll be honest, I've not been since they lopped the trees down and got rid of the see saw and stuff (so 16/17 years?!) but might go for a play over the hols just for a change of scenery. Is the stuff over the road still there/still good/still steep and off-pistey?
The reds and black are still there but I only ride the stuff over the road when I go up to Stainburn. Its freakin awsome! Loads of great trails, steep loamy rocky rooty goodness. Just wish they were longer...
Appreciate all the feedback, think I'll go with the DJ as it's not often that gets ridden.
There are better riding options closer to me, but requirement is kid friendly riding LUBP is roughly equidistant between friend groups.
Or, head up to Stainburn

Yes!
The red is very weatherproof, and a chunky rocky red rather something more flowy; it feels like you're had a proper workout after just one lap!
The black is more a challenge of trials/balance/technical/mental skills; it'd be incredibly impressive to clean the whole loop without a dab (I never have). It's not everyone's cup of tea by any stretch, but immensely satisfying when you clean bits of it that have previously eluded you.
But yeah, the best stuff is the off piste stuff over the road, which in the main, rides really well even in the current wet weather. Runs are short, and as such, there's a lot of grinding back up the hill again (but that can be a fun tech challenge too, the trail that runs parallel to the road on the right as you head up is much more interesting and challenging than just riding up the road)
(I live in North Leeds, so it's half an hour in the car; I'd probably not travel more than 1-2 hours - but there's gold to be found if you stick at it)
