I Have some Straitline's that are very good, however best for price have to be superstar nanos.

They are grippy, low profile and not mental money.

Easton flatboys

http://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/product/eastonflatboyblackpedals.aspx?&id=6513

http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/pedals/product/review-easton-flatboy-pedals-15810/

doubt youll find them for much under £60 (used mine around 7 times before going clipless) they are rock solid and would certainly outlive your bike

Point1 Podium Flats

They're better than Burgtecs.

The eastons are pretty fat and heavy though, personally I get on with lower profile pedals which are a bit more concave (so you foot can sink into them a bit)

pedals are a bug bear of mine.
the old azonic aframes were the best.
i tried the new ones but they developed bad play in one week.
mg1's are too soft and the pins rip out too easy.
wanted canfeilds but that never happened.
got nukeproof neutron and the right pedal creaks like mad...... arrggghhhh

all half axel pedals dont last with me at all. eastons snapped!
the nukeproff isnt a full axel eaither 🙁

I always go back to my flatboys.

Straitlines were good, and would like a go on the point ones, but Ive had the eastons for about 4 years now and they still work perfectly.

I got some Atomlab Aircorps, massive footbed but quite thin too. No bearings to mess with just DU Bushings.

Awesome pedals!!!

Straitlines don't work for big miles riding IME. THey are great for DH though. I've been using superstar and found them excellent.

I did a wee write up on both pedals on my site if you want to see more details of what I thought: Superstar Nanotech Pedal - Long Term Review

nice looking pedal don't stay nice for long - they just get battered, I'd be weary of spending 80quid on some light weight flats.

ive got some superstar ultra mag with the pins changed to (the very expensive) straitline pins on the big bike so i may try those. my only concern is they are very flat rather than concave so the foot does not sit them like my dx's.

I got some MG1s from ebay recently for about £25 shipped.

One thing to note that is that the magnesium doesn't seem to take much abuse. Mine are already looking a bit battered after some rock contact.

My old Flatboys have been abused for years & still keep going, but they are fat & very heavy.

I've got a set of Nano's on one bike & the equivalent on another & they have been very impressive, also half the weight of the Eastons.

my superstar ultra mag are fine after 18 months of heavy dowhill use and loads of hard crashes! theres a bit of paint wear but that why i prefer the natural colour like the shimano dx or a simular grey colour.

I'm still using Azonic A-frames, they do the job for me.

Generally the best pedals are just the ones that you like best, ask around mates etc.. and see if you can borrow a few sets and do a small ride with each?

That way you can get to see what sort of size, profile etc... you like best.

I was going to get Straitlines or Burgtecs but opted for Wellgo B54 for £25.
They just get bashed up anyway, and I can just replace them more often - 4 pairs of Wellgos for the price of 1 Straitlines.
I like the B54s, nice big platform and perform well.

I agree. Two sets on two bikes and have been utterly faultless for five years. And a flippin' bargain at the price.

Ive currently got burgtec penthouse mk3's on one bike and point one racing podium flats on the other. Podiums are a great trail pedal and would be fine for more but I like the massive, solid feel of the burgtecs for dh. Both are really really grippy though.

I used eastons, didn't find they gripped that well with standard pins and axle broke. With magnesium pedals they just get destroyed in no time and the straitlines had play from the box and the bushings lasted no time at all.

Just got a set of Wellgo mg-1's, £25 delivered from Hong Kong via e-bay. One of my mates has the wellgo's on one bike and Vaults on the other. Due to massive difference in cost he says there is only one winner!

Point One Podiums are the best I've ever used.

Another vote for Dark Cycles Arachnids, but with the Ti axles from my old MG1s, NS Aerials are pretty sweet too. I founs MG1s a little too small for my size 11 flippers.

Always has been DMR V12's for me, Mags for some weight saving, fully servicable, always grippy, well sealed, you can't go wrong with them.

Except that they're smaller, heavier, less grippy and more expensive than the Wellgo MG1 (which comes out of the same factory to boot). I had some V12s and they were perfectly good, if you ignore all those things but why would you?

The various Nanos are decent too but if you're a maximum-grip sort of person they have way less grip than some, I think maybe because of the axle. Also, the pins don't thread in far so if you switch to terror pins, there's a hell of a lot of leverage on them and they rip out very easily. Just doesn't work at all with the magnesium bodied ones.

So MG1s or Nanos, there might be better out there but at how much more? MG1s cheaper, and more outright grip, Nanos I think tougher and thinner so use the grip they have better.

Maybe not the "best" but for me the best value for money are the cheapest Wellgos. Had mine for a few years I think, they were on a bmx beforehand as well. They have a bit of play but I don't notice it when riding.

Jedi, the Progressive Bikes domain is being moved so email is down at the mo.

The SDH review was odd, no pedal could have survived what they did with the pedals i sent them for test, they were knackered and abused.

Ask Matt from STW what he thinks to the Crampons, he has had a set of ours for a long while now 🙂

Surely that is what all pedals get subjected too. Plus, it doesn't explain why they reckon the grip is poor.

I can honestly say that any pedal would have died the way that they used and treated the Canfields, I don't know of any pedals that would have been in good condition after that amount of abuse.

For info the pedals are now available in black or white

New website is nearly finished, but atm you can't buy directly on the website as I'm waiting for some techy stuff to be finished.

Not light and rare as these days but I run 24Seven Slacks on both my bikes (and am on the lookout for another pair for my new jump bike). Mad grip, last AGES without servicing (the ones on my main bike have been running smooth as for 2+ years now and I bought them second hand!). Take some serious abuse judging by the state of them but just keep working. Only way they could be better would be to lose some weight and have a lower profile...

Just fitted a set of Twenty6 Prerunner Cromo pedals to my bike in rather lovely Urban Camo anodised finish.

They grip as well as they look. I have heard of people breaking some of the pin mounts on them on rocks but it's not too rocky here and I can throw the Welgo's on for those rides.

I have with mine, I ride in the Peak, two of the mounts in particular have smashed off. And the pins are very week. I've replaced them with grub screws. That said, Twenty6 have re-designed them now, not sure if there as light.

I'm suprised how many people complain that bearings wear out... they do.. and you replace them.. its easy really. Whats tuff is getting a lot of wear out of thin pedals as the bearings are so small. Hence Canfield using two side by side.

WTF?
I'd avoid any pedal with a stupid axle bulge, and by the look of them especially these ones.

I've had a set of Crampons since they came out. Whats that about 15months or so, ridden in the Peak and etc weekly, I need to replace the bearings in one side but they have lasted well.

Mind you, if you want zero maintenance go with the Twenty6 Prerunners with Ti axles- that don't use bearings but bushings (not soft metal ones that wear !)

No pedals would ever last me 15months, pedals are a disposable part to me. if I get a season of DH out of a set of £30ish HT/nano's without having to change bent axles too often I'm happy, then once too many pins have ripped out (taking the threads with them) they can go on the hardtail or BMX wher I'm not so fussed about grip.
