[Closed] What 700c commuting tyres?

Have some cheapish Bonty tyres which came with my Roadrat which slide at the slightest hint of damp - sketchy as anything on a white line!

So what cheapish tyres for commuting - puncture resistant, grip in the wet, not too pricey, easy to remove when punctured, fast rolling?

Loads. Many use conti. They do about 500 models which seem the same.

Try Schwalbe Marathons. Decent puncture resistance (touch wood) and relatively fast rolling in say a 28mm. I find they grip well in the muck too. Another thing I like about them is the reflective sidewall stripe - a plus for winter commuting.

I've been using Schwalbe Marathons plus's on my pompino for the past few years, great tyres!

I use Halo Twin rail couriers on my Langster and they work well for me, I've a couple of mates who run Duro Fixie Pops, and these are currently on offer from On One here, (other colours are available)

Marathons are not fast rolling!

On the winter road bike>>>I have used Bonti Race lite 25s for the last few years and never have any bother with them ( I tend to stop cranking it over when it's wet mind)

On the CX >>> I use Vittoria Adventure 35s .Have used them on all surfaces and like them a lot. ( Never had a puncture with them ).

Sometimes ,I think it depends more on what the surface is like that you ride on,glass strewn streets, hawthorn littered B roads or pothole covered tracks. You read about people having completely different experiences with the same brand of tyre.

got a panaracer crosstowns in the 28 variety on my singlecross. - seem fine.

gotta keep an eye on them though in later life as when they wear out - ie at end of life they like to split. - it looked like a racing slick with some cracks in it !

Really impressed with my Panaracer Pasella TG, light, kevlar protected ,roll really well and cheap at £19.99 on CRC. Have done 700 miles on them since Feb and no problems what so ever.

Marathon Racers, or if narrower then Conti Gatorskins.

Marathon Plus if puncture resistance is needed above all else. Otherwise to slow.

Schwalbe Land Cruisers are a good all-rounder (-they were the favoured 3 Peaks CX tyre a few years back, they may still be).

I use 700c x 35 on my CX commuter, but there are other widths available.

Fine on road unless you are racing, surprisingly good off-road, very tough, very hard-wearing. I've not used my narrow slicks since I bought Land Cruisers a few years ago.

I use Conti GP 4 Seasons (I use 23c, but they do 25 and 28 as well). Not cheap, but fulfill all the others. Replaced my rear one a few months ago after more than 5,000 miles, you could see the carcass, not had a single flat though.

+1 Conti GP4Seasons. Not cheap but cheap tyres are a false economy in my book. Think cheap coffee. Or cereal. Or...

28mm. Better grip+feel than Gators. Can be found for £30ea.

Another +1 for the Conti GP 4 season.
I've probably put about 2000 miles on the pair on my commute bike and they're still going strong. I've had 1 flat in 12 months of commuting.
