I'm currently on a Stans Hugo (54mm) rim and thinking of getting something less huuuaaage. Got a Minion DHF 29x3.o on the way - which needs a minimum 40mm rim.

Was gonna go Stans Baron mk3, but theyre only 35 ID.

What 40mm rims are out there?

You don't need 40mm internal for DHF 3.0; I am running on 35mm and it's fine. Having said that I reckon 40mm is probably sweet spot between weight and tyre profile.

Yeah, I'm aware I wont die on a 35, but as you say, 40 is the sweet spot. I like to run the pressure quite low (like 11 psi). I think Stans do a wider Major, but Ive never seen one for sale??

Hadn't heard of a Scraper yourguitarhero, so Ill check that out right now.

Cheers

I just built a wheel around an easton arc 45mm rim for a 3.0 surly dirt wizard

Is 40mm not on the small side for 3.0?

Arc is a good deal lighter than the Scraper IIRC.

DT XM551 are excellent, 40mm internal, decent weight, tough as old boots (I went through a lot of plus tyres before getting the hang of pressures, but no dings yet)

yourguitarhero mentioned the Scrapers above. I hadn't heard of them before, and there's a light or a tough option?

Ive just found them on CRC.

614g Light, 671g Tough.

I love to save weight but on a rigid, I think Id need the tough for peace of mind.

Cheers

Scored a pair new unused on ebay for £40, seems they may have stopped doing them.
