Any recommendations for a frame, ideally......Or is she too short?

Santa Cruz Tallboy 29ers go quite small - as do Salsa El Mariachis. I'm 5'7" and take a medium in each - and both do an XS. The smallest El Mariachi is recommended for riders 5'1" to 5'5".

Er to do what on?

Are all 29s the same? Quite probably one that would fit a similar sized man but would suggest having a look at a few.

How about a Soma b-side 650b specific frame? There's a cheap one on eBay at the moment (not mine).

I;m 5'9". This is my 16" scandal 29er

You can see it's got loads of seat post showing and I'm running an 80mm stem. The bent seat tube means that the effective TT increases as you put the seat up, so conversely gets shorter as you drop it. add a 50mm stem and that'd be fine for a 5'6" person

Mrs MTG is 5'6" and is comfy on a Medium Kona Big Unit.
She's slightly shorter in the leg and longer in the back than is usual for a woman though, so generally fits a man's frame better than a woman's.

I seem to remember reading that Cotic will be bringing out a small Solaris. That may well go small enough.

The last I read, there were two 16" prototypes and Cy thought that he wouldn't go into production. That was a few months back though.

I'm not quite 5'4" and my spesh epic men's small 29er fits perfectly with a 75mm stem, so I don't think in principle a 29er would be too big for her. Guess it depends on body shape, riding style and personal preference.

I am 5'3" female and I am riding a 15" specialised fate 29er which I love. That is an upgrade from my 15" specialised Jett expert 29er which I also loved and why I upgraded. The Jett is for sale (few pages back in FS section) if you are interested. It is 2012 bike good as new and selling for £800 (was £1300. Supposed to be for up to 5'6". Can e-mail info and pics if interested.
