[Closed] Wharncliffe, best way back to the top & car park?

We have worked out how to string together a good outward section from the car park opp the Greno trails but how do we then get back up to the top fire road for the DH stuff?
Yesterday we climbed up the first left off the bottom fireroad and followed our nose back up to the crag because going back down felt wrong but we didn't really want go that high.

We then rode the new XC descent before looping round the end via the line under the pylons.

So my questions are, what is the best way back up to the DH lines, even if that means pushing? Is there a more direct way back to the car park?

Didn't see a single rider on the Wharncliffe DH stuff, not even on the newer bermy lines but there were about 50 of them on the Steel City track.

I wouldn't have any idea how to describe it but there are / were singletrack climbs through the trees from the very bottom all the way to the top, it's all on the very right hand side of the woods as you look up hill

Cheers Podge, I might go one without the bike, just take my running shoes and the dog, I find that's a good way to work these things out.
I'm happy to push back up if that's the best way.

Trying to remember where stuff goes...

From the house / factory bottom entrance follow the fire road straight up, it gets steeper and steeper, just as it starts to level look behind a tree to the right, the tree might still have a bird box on it, there's a little trail that you can follow, this comes out back onto the fire road, turn right & go over a mini bridge / water outlet and keep looking right as after a few yards you'll head back into the trees. this then works its way up and up till a very steep bit coming out on a bridleway, follow this left & through the gate as it drops, turn right following the fire road, as this turns left keep straight on, following this will eventually bring you out at the top carpark / barrier.

Not the best instructions / directions but it should see you some of the way. Its been a good 12 months since I've been in there, it used to be my fave local loop but just not had the time of late. Last time I was in there bits had been logged so how much is ridable or obvious I'm not sure also the first bit in the woods looked to have berms so maybe someone turned it into a DH so be careful.

Maybe that's the answer, try parking at the bottom next time & I'll try and follow your guide.

You can either ride asking to the very end passing the bottom of the diamond back and then following the fire roads back up, keeping turning right or, if you're at the bottom of the dh tracks then back up the double track turning right initially then following the fire roads keeping left. There are various other variations including some single track climbs or other fire roads.

We rode along the bottom (past Fast Track) till the first left turn then followed the singletrack to the pylon singletrack. From here it felt like a long drag back to the car park although we missed the last right turn so ended up going up past the start of the XC trail.

Where do the DH boys push back up for another go? Surely those boys aren't going all the way round.

Only time I've seen people push back up, its been pretty much straight back the way they came

I know the woods well but am lost reading the above ๐Ÿ˜‰

The DH tracks spread for miles these days, so the push up really depends on the track you are riding - Diamond Back end or Mini Whistler end are a long way apart.

The most central push up is to the riders right as you descend Fast Track - it's a land rover track almost straight up the hill, comes out on the top fire road just the other side of the brow from the start of Fast Track.

Several ways back from this point to the top car park - depends what bike you are on. If I ride DH in there I park at the pub at the bottom, over the railway bridge and in first left then work my way along/up. Finishing at the bottom is much better when you're spent at the end of the day!

Parking at the top OK if you are on a bike to ride back up but all the trails will be hard to describe, you really need to be shown around to find the good stuff.

^This is the best way up if pushing (though it's just about ride-able if dry and you have good legs)

Alternatively turn right follow the fire roads bearing right on any forks, you'll start to head up hill, go around right hand hairpin and up a very steep fire road. - This will fetch you out at the far end of the fire road with the DH runs next to the old XC decent

We are on trail/Am/Enduro... bikes with diddy wheels so capable of riding up rideable stuff.

Thanks folks that makes sense to me I think..

So looking uphill over to the left is the XC descent to the right Diamond Back and in between Fastrack? I had it in mind that Diamond Back had been out out of use a while back.

One day I need to spend a morning (or several) pushing up and riding back down each trail till it makes sense!

So where's the best/safest place to park at the bottom of the hill?

There's some fun steep chutes near the old Diamond back track, off to right. The steep drop in to the fire road near the railings is steeper than it looks, but it goes!

Park in the layby outside the pub.

Pedal in, right at the first fire road junction and work your way up.

Absolutely loads of stuff for a trail ride, you can do the whole length right over to the far crags and Stocksbridge bypass end.

We rode along the top of the crag, it's a lot of fun.

What's the name of the pub?

Always park at the top car park. There is loads to do once you find your way round. We just pedal back up the main fire road from the top of the down hill tracks.
