[#7794930]

Been getting back in to cycling of late and took a spin on my local trails yesterday.

I've not bought a new bike in many years, in fact my bike is a 2003 Kona, and boy does it feel cramped. Maybe it's the DMR wingbars that really don't feel that wide or I've gotten bigger, but it was not comfortable at all.

So, after being turned down today for a job, i'm window shopping. I reckon I have a £1000 budget so it's most likely a hardtail of some description.

Always liked the look of On One's and I reckon 27.5 wheel size of some sort would be fine but i'm looking for suggestions

What sort of riding do you do? Steep/technical or more mellow?

1k gets you not that much these days but likes of boardmans you get a lot of bang for buck.

Get yourself down to Evans cycles (Pinnacle) or Halfords, seems to be the general suggestion for that price range.

I disagree, a grand gets some great bikes. Off the top of my head, Sonder Transmitter looks good, Ragley Marley, Boardmans etc all look decent. Pinnacle Iroko range start from £800 and are roomy. I have a 45650b and although I really like it, reach isn't long by modern standards (but is compared to my retro rides!)

Bird Zero range start at £1,000 and are very nice and very long.

And on the other hand bikes for 1k are so much better than they were 13 years ago. You're in for a treat! I havent looked for a little while but I wouldnt have thought that you'd go too far wrong with on one, I'm sure that there are plenty more options if you have a search. giant, specialized, whyte..
Its all long low slack at the moment, largely a good thing I think too.

A bit of all round to be honest. I used to downhill around 97/98 so i'm more comfortable going down than up

Decathlon bikes are good value in their sales and warranty is fantastic.
