Just booked a cottage outside dolgellau for a week from next weekend! fantastic, cant wait! Got to go Billy-no-mates though, anyone going to be about? It will certainly make a change from Thetford! Is Brenin still as good?

We're also in the area for a week's holiday starting on Friday. We're the other side of Coed-y-brenin. Only problem is will have 2 kids in tow so scope for riding is somewhat limited, but could potentially meet up. Any interest in night riding??

Funny you should say that! Just got some Hope lights last week and not tried them yet. Could be fun around there!

Hi, we are riding up in the Dyfi forest on Wednesday night (21st October) if you fancy joining us. We are meeting at 6:30 in the car park at the trail head just above Ceinws and will probably ride the ClimachX trail plus a couple of enduro trails thrown in.

Link to ride is at http://www.ystwyth-mtb.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=157&page=1#pid1956

Mate drop me an email at ajryan@btinternet and we'll see what we can sort out! A night ride around CyB could be fun. Also know some good natural stuff around there.

HeiHei will do! Whats this Scethin track? Part of the marked trails at Brenin? I did the Climach trail last year ,during the daytime though. That centre section of the descent back to the trail head must be pretty hairy at night, sure as hell not doing that on my own!

Mickasaki,

yes it is, though we won't be in the Dyfi forest that week, but a little further south at a place called Anglers Retreat, about half way between Dyfi and Nant-yr-arian.

Pont Scethin is an ancient bridge (pont is Welsh for bridge) which carries a trackway used several centuries ago to get livestock from the coast to market towns in England. As such, the trails are manmade but of a different type! They cross some wild, remote and stunning landscape, and although not the designer type of trails in CyB, are quite technical in places. The bridge looks like this.....

Hi, is that located on that old trail that heads out towards Barmouth from behind the redbull side at Brenin? We rode back from Barmouth cross country about 10 years back, and i seem to remember something like that.

Yes could well be the same one - cracking place (in good weather!).

Certainly wasn't good weather when i was there! We overestimated the overall return ride, ran out of food and drink - pre camelback days! It all got a bit desperate to be honest, and i didn't so much as 'hit the wall' more of slammed into, bounced off then hit it again! never been so glad to get back to civilisation in my life, even now!

I'll email you both. Anyone got any thoughts on riding Cader? Is it hike up and ride down?

Pont Scethin : A history lesson..... is actually on the old London - Harlech Coach road. .must of been crazy to get a coach over there, drovers would of been quite happy driving cattle across rivers and through mud

True enough twas a coach road, but was also used as a drover's road - check out Fay Godwin's book on the drovers roads in the area (if still in print).

Never riden Cader, although walked and climbed it a number of times. Would be tempted though - have no aversion to pushing!
