Help! I'm trying to create a Strava segment, I set the start and end points but when I create the segment it shows it on a completely different piece of road! What's going on?

This has been happening to me too, it seems to pick the nearest bit if recognised public road/ bridle way between the 2 points.

Really annoying, also on a couple I've tried to make the KOM time shows up as a direct line on the 200m stretch of fire road the 1.6km trail starts and ends on in a big loop!!!

Maybe that's something to do with it - the line I want is down an old unclassified road (actually an overgrown woodsy singletrack)so it's just moving it to the next bit of road.

I'm wondering if you can now only create off road segments if you're a premium member?

It doesn't day anything about that on the strava premium benefits list. Seems a bit strange.
It even does it if I move the start/finish points to a section of road. It keeps telling me "your segment looks like an existing one" and shows a completely unrelated road climb about half a mile away.

It does it to me even if I try to create one on a road.

I found that if you create it, then go back and edit it, you can get it in the right place eventually.

As an aside, I also found that is automatically creates segments for you sometimes. It created 2 for me from runs I did the other day. I'm kom on both 😀

At the moment it keeps moving start and end points on new segments I create. Seems to shift them forward by 100m or so. If I go back and edit the segment everything is then fine.

Just a bit annoying and odd.

Also noticed this, think it's an error with Strava, did it a few months ago and they fixed it.

Might be worth dropping them an email, they are quite helpful

it's a bug where the segment is offset by the same distance as your privacy radius (if you have one set). There's a thread about it on their support site & they are apparently working on a solution.

Ah, that makes sense.

Yup, just recently started on Strava and created my first segment today.

When creating, it adds on another mile exactly to the start and end points. I have the one mile security radius set round my house.

Quite a bit about it on the support forum.

However if you create your segment, then go back and edit it manually, it seems to work ok.
