I got this sound like distant thunder in my head whilst on the road today, it went if I got out of the saddle. For some time I kept looking to either side of me for thunder! though.
Is it likely to be linked to the flu I'm getting over? It was my first road ride since getting ill New Years Day,and I was still coughing constantly.
It could be congestion, or an inner ear infection?
Balance a bit shaky too ? that can be linked to inner ear infection.
can you pop your ears? Like you do on a plane? Hold your nose, close your mouth anf blow? If your ears pop your still probably bunged up?

mate; 'No'
me; 'you sure'
mate; 'yep, get on my wheel and shut up'
me; 'okay.....o c'mon you must have heard that'
mate;'FFS'
Ton, just going to look online or are you taking the pee.
just kidding mate.
Git. Mind you I came up with a nice colour for my hair.
Try using decongestant next time.
It could be middle ear rather than inner ear, the sound only occured under exertion, this would increase your blood pressure and heart rate. It sound if it stopped after the exertion, any sound caused by your inner ear would last slightly longer.
it's just a cold/sniffles. or the sound of right minded consideration about your sniffles. you'll get over it!

Could very well be, actually. I had an ear infection a while ago, and experienced a muffled, 'booming' kind of sound; bit like a very distant subwoofer. Was prescribed ear drops, and it cleared up in a couple of weeks.
