So my bike currently looks like this..
and i'd like to get it as light as i can, but without compromising strength. (I also use it for DH with a change of wheels and seatpost/saddle) It's currently sat at 32lbs
current spec is quite obvious, but i'm not wanting to change the forks or shock, as that is major dollar, and coil feels better over air when descending. BTW, Ti spring is in the post for the shock.
quick spec list..
36 vanR forks
rc2 rear shock
crossmax sx
2.25 folding ardents
thompson post/saddle
x-9 throughout
atlas FR cranks
gamut chainguide
sunline bars (260g, so quite light)
and a few other things.
Any ideas?
Given you're not changing the frame, shock and forks and you want to maintain strength, there is nothing overall obvious on that bike that will give you a decent weight saving. I would normally say the wheels but CRC say the Crossmax SX weigh 1755g a pair anyway so not worth swapping them.
Depending on exactly which type of Ardent tyres/tubes you're running, you might find some weight could be saved there.
You're going to have to make lots of little component changes to get any decent weight savings and that could quickly get expensive unless you have a big budget. Are you carrying any extra weight? ๐
Tyres, tubes, saddle, pedals, smaller rotors. Should be a couple of pounds to be had.
Lighter shoes might be another pound... (really)
That's not a bad weight for a coil shocked bike.cranks would save you some weight. What brakes do you have? ๐
I reckon that with the spec you have you might be better off with air shocks. I agree that coils feel better but there is so much you can do (or have done) to an air shock to get them pretty close. Pretty much any serious gravity enduro racer runs air shocks these days so they can clearly stand the abuse. Then you could 'spend' some of that weight on proper tyres ๐
