Sumer Is Icumen In, so it's overgrown trails this week.

The rules;
1. Take a photo of your bike with something that matches the theme in the picture.
2. Interpret the theme any way you like.
3. Pictures should be taken between the dates in the topic title.
4. If you post a picture you can either suggest a theme for next weeks challenge or vote for someone else's suggestion. First suggestion to get two supporting votes becomes next weeks theme, probably.

This is the footpath that leads off from that dead end on an industrial estate I posted last week.

Next week, how about milestones ? The proper old ones from the days of coach and horse.
There's more of them about than you might think, look for MS at the side of a road on your local OS map.

This one shows up on Google maps as a proper road. Don't think the MX5 is coming down here anytime soon. Doncaster Lane, Skelbrooke.

This is amongst the clearest of my local lanes (other than where they've been bailing, and the tractors have opened stuff up).

[img] [/img]

The local pony-girls will be kicking off about some of them now tho', so I expect some of them will get flailed soon (which is way too early). ๐Ÿ™

A week or so ago I had to stop a chap in a van-with-back-seats-people-carrier thing going off down a lane you can only ride / walk down - no 4X4's, no tractors, nothing else.

He was following his sat-nav (to a supermarket), which he thought (on the basis of his sat-nav) really was off down this tiny, steep, unsurfaced back-country greenlane (in the middle of the country with no supermarket signage anywhere) ... ๐Ÿ™„ ... ~30 mtrs further on and he'd have been completely done for.

Milestones +1

No other suggestions, so we'll go with milestones.

There's a few Roman ones surviving in the UK, although most are later from around the time of the turnpike roads and coaching inns.
I find it fascinating that so many have survived intact at the side of the road for 200 years or more.
