I've been playing around with the idea of having my own website. Problem is i've no idea how to make one or the ins and outs of hosting.
So been looking at these template websites and playing around with the designs, Wix is the site i've used and the design process is very simple. Pricing seems pretty reasonable too.
Are there many disadvantages to using these types of setup. Only one that is obvious to me is that i can't take the design and host it elsewhere (at least i don't think so).
Also are Wix any good, are should i be looking elsewhere?

Been thinking same sort of things myself recently,will ask work colleage who has own tv filming company about his website and running etc.

If you have a bit of patience its not that hard to create a basic website from scratch. I tought myself by watching 'Create The Net' tutorials on You Tube. Within two weeks I had a basic (static) website up although it's only a practice one at the moment. I have to stress though that this is a basic ststic website rather than a dynamic one which has memebrs log in areas and e-commerce etc. I'm currently going through all that stuff now and it's a bit more complicated. I used Dreamweaver to edit the HTML code, which you'll have to get hold of (or other code editing software).
For web hosting i'm using TSO Host which for me as a complete novice have great customer service and are really quick to reply too.
