I posted a while about finding out who was riding around the Watford-ish area.
Since then, we've had a loose collective of riders who are riding on a irregular basis plus others who expressed an interest.

The response was pretty encouraging, and now that we are getting longer days and some sunshine and less rain (!), I think maybe we should compile a list of riders who are possibly interested in going on rides locally.

As it stands, we have a Tues and a Thurs evening ride leaving from Watford, meeting people on the way out towards Latimer / Sarratt, then riding the Shire Way and other bridleways.

I see this riding expanding into the w/ends too if people are up for it

What I'm suggesting is we try an organised meet or two and see how it goes from there.
Please email me (in my profile) and I'll knock up a round-robin email and take it from there.

Post your thoughts below or this thread will drop out of sight in no time at all! 😉

I live in Watford but am based in Oxford right now (uni). Would be well up for something like this over easter/summer though if it gets to the stage of being an organised ride/club. Where abouts are you guys riding and how technical is it?

Have a look here to get some idea of where we ride

Sort of Shires Way-ish at present.
If you add in the Chess Valley, WD Woods and follow the Shires down towards the Coy Carp (correct spelling!), that would give you a fair idea.

Also have a look at pdf's and we're pretty central to the routes. Night rides tend to be based, at present, along this Shires Way axis.

As for conditions, as it drys, it gets quicker and quicker. Lots of it is well drained. HT most of the time, & almost all of it is non-technical.

Initially, it'll be just that, fathoming out who rides and what distances and speeds plus where we're all based.

I suspect the first few meets will be more social / leisure rides so we can best judge what people want to gain from the group & work it out from there.

Naturally people will find the ride and or / training partners they get most from, so we're all in the same boat.

It'll all work its self out over the coming weeks and months and should open up new routes and riders; people can use the loose group and rides as something of a smorgasbord.

Richard (of the parish) is working on some web presence, so as soon as there’s more info, I’ll post it here and email all interested parties and we can go from there.

I'm in, particularly for night / evening rides like the one we did last thursday (maybe the odd weekend ride too, just harder to sort the logistics).

Would be good to also get out over Berkhamsted / Wendover direction on occasion as well as Sarratt / Shire Lane.

Anybody members of Aston Hill by the way? Would be nice to include some of the trails there from time to time (not sure whether night riding is allowed there though).

All signed up... Waiting for my knee to get better, but by then it'll be drier and faster outside (I will, of course, be far slower).

I go over that way in the drier months, so no doubt we'll hook up at some point.
You do have a lot of other options that are a 30min drive away. For instance there's a classic 'oldskool' xc route from Harlington just up the M1 from you.
And from the back end of Hemel you can sweep out to the Dunstable downs and ride back across Ivinghoe Beacon to Tring and onto Wendover, in fact you can keep going all the way down the Ridgeway.
How far is Stokenchurch ffrom you, just along the M25. There's a ace 35 mile all off road route there.

Cheers Old.
Still yet to load the bike into the car but it's very tempting I must say.

We'll catch with everyone soon, I don't doubt.

Hi Ti29er, I'm is St Albans, so not a million miles away.
What sort of distances are you covering? I'm a bit slow/out of shape right now (but working on it!). Will drop you a PM.

Cheers.

Lego.
No set distances.
Log on and keep an eye on it as it evolves and I am sure we'll have a big group ride soon so people can work out what level they want to ride at and therefore who they want to hook-up with & thus which rides they'd like to get involved with.
It's somewhat organic at present as it's only a few days old!

Only just seen this thread.
I'm a Watford-based MTBer. Got 3 MTBs:-
Rockhopper - all-purpose, training/town bike.
Stumpy FSR - done-it-all full-sus trail bike.
custom SX Trail II - mini DH

I don't drive, so am limited to local stuff, travel by train, or reliant upon friends.
Am out on the RH around Watford most of the time.
Live within mins of Watford Cycles (nice lads) and Asda.

Ti29er, I'll drop you an email.
