[Closed] Washing and cleaning the bike

Due to the crappy weather (not recently) the bike has been cleaned pretty much after every ride.

The problem is whilst cleaning the bike some of the grass has been killed off and turned a funny colour, then I moved to the patio area.

Now the slabs have various stain patches. My question is there anything that people do or use to avoid this?

Before anyone suggests a bike bath, I have already asked the boss of the house and I only got a certain look, no words! 🙂

Does anyone have anything built to avoid all the mess?

I don't wash bikes. It spoils them and makes you look like ATGNI

Is the bike bath look in any way similar to the working cats look?

I usually just give my bikes a quick hose down to remove the worst of the mud. Sometimes if I am bored a will give them a better clean when they are dry just using a rag.

Just use water. Whenever the chain needs a thorough clean with degrease, I take it off and do it in a small pot on the sink.

“ I don’t wash bikes. It spoils them and makes you look like ATGNI”

It’s also a massive waste of time and resources. And if done wrong wrecks parts by removing lubrication from where it’s needed and driving water and/or dirt into where it shouldn’t be.

As per mjsmke. I use water only for 3 out of 4 washes. It helps if you wash it immediately post ride before anything has had a chance to dry out, and if it doesn’t really need it then leave it for next time..

I washed my bike once then noticed a terminal crack in the frame. If I hadn't washed it I would not have noticed. I no longer wash my bikes to avoid the same thing happening again.

Is this a road bike thread or MTBers that ride round mud ?

A hose down area is sensible if you are unhappy with the impact on your flags / grass (did you specifically say 'bath' or indicate a hose down area ?).

Now we are allowed out in the car again, I will take a hydroshot to the trail to leave most of the debris there, but my tarmac drive hides most of the mess

Check that the oils / bike wash you are using are biodegradable ?

Small pebbled area at the top of the garden. Tend to have to wash more than one

Dog usually gets done at the same time

I don't wash bikes, for the reasons explained above. Let them dry, use a stiff brush to get rid of the dirt, then wipe them down.

Recently not ridden in much mud. Most rides have been during lunch breaks so while its been wet I've stuck to road and a few drier routes.

I think I might need a Tracey to keep the bikes looking good. Mrs Sandwich has refused, also using "that" look.

Each time wash the bike in a different place in the garden, the discolouration will become uniform.
