[Closed] VPP2 (Tracer 2) lower pivot bolt removal

Any ideas how to get this out? I've removed the 5mm allen bolt holding in the collet, but the collet itself is well and truly welded in despite plenty of plus gas. I've seen guides involving getting something in behind it and pushing it out from the other side by threading in a long bolt, but on mine the collet is totally flush with the bolt behind, so there's no place to get purchase on.

Anyone have any genius ideas they can throw my way?

Had similar trouble on a santa Cruz it was locked in with a locking compound, I used a long bolt just into the bottom of the collet and wiggled it carefully just popped out, the other collets came away fairly easy.

ok cheers, was this from the front (non-drive side) or from the back? Having trouble visualising what you mean at the moment!

collet like this was stuck in and I put a long bolt just into the hole (1mm or so) where the 5mm bolt goes through and gave it a wiggle and she came out.

I have a Tracer 2 now so will have a look tomorrow not stripped the lower link yet , tis greased up ok from the grease port, top link I've stripped bearings look a bit cheap , i just popped seals out washed with IPA then regreased, then popped seal back in.

Ah nice one, would be great if you could have a look at your tracer. Pumping grease in seems to have stopped working for me! I've been doing something similar to what you described with no joy so might need to get a bit more inventive...

Had the same problem with mine. Put the head of the bolt in backwards (or ideally an old bolt, same head diameter), then give it a firm tap sideways on the thread sticking out. The collet will then fly out leaving access to the hex bolt (8mm) underneath.

in retrospect didn't write that very clearly - so just head of bolt sticking into bore in collet, give thread of bolt a tap sideways with hammer. might need a couple of whacks in different directions but got this advice after being totally stumped, and works well.

YES! Final got the little sods out. I'd tried the hammering sideways thing but had been too diplomatic... thanks!
