Value of used bike parts?

When it comes to buying used bike parts, do people consider there to be much difference in value/worth between lightly used and taken off a new bike?

Got a new bike coming soon and I know I want to change some parts. Just wondering if I should use them for a month or two, or take them off from the start.

Does it make much difference to the perceived 2nd hand worth of the parts?

I would pay more for “new(other)” than used (good condition).

The difference between 'As good as new' and 'never used' makes very little difference to me when buying stuff.

To be honest, the difference between 'in good condition' and 'never used' makes little difference. I shouldn't sweat it

You will get more on eBay selling as 'New (other)' than 'used'

In the STW classifieds  "lightly used" can mean worn out / done to death . IME.

Been there - done that. Wont repeat.

"New other" on ebay is where my money goes.

Apologies if I’ve missed something and this veers off topic somewhat, Having built my last two bikes predominantly from used parts (either used or straight off a new bike) I’ve a little experience

I personally tend to primarily go on condition and (if any) bundled bits, so wheels with at least semi decent tyres as a recent example, regardless of whether they have been used or come straight off a new bike, as long as they work and don’t look TOO used, taking into consideration any potential servicing / new part requirements I’ll normally have a punt if the price is right

a solid description and plenty of pictures is a must for me, I will normally bypass an item if the description is left to something minimal along the lines of

“Used wheels for sale, good condition”

Don't use the parts at all. Take them off and sell them as such. If you know you are swapping them then you have nothing to gain as you would just take value off them for little reward.

A lot of people will just go off the pictures. If you use them how clean can you get them?

Never used would be more desirable to me. As mentioned people have a very different definition of "very good condition" or "as new" so you have a better idea of what you are getting.

I've had a few things that look great in pictures but have some issues so that isn't always clear cut

From a private seller, I don't differentiate much between never used and ridden 10 miles or so. No warranty either way. I still get surprised at how people try to pass off clearly broken things as new or good condition. Been caught out by not checking things until weeks later a couple of times.

You'll get more if they're unused. How much more very much depends what they actually are.

GRX 610 chainset 172.5x40T with RS500 BSA bottom bracket.

G$X 610 pair of shifters 1x12.
Probably the GRX 400 calipers as well.
Tektro pair 160mm rotors - 6 bolt

Although I didn't want this to turn into a cheeky classified as.

Unused/ used is a binary choice. Lightly used through to ****ed is shades of grey....

I would pay far more for unused than lightly used.

Defo don't use them
